JobNet HR Conference draws local and international industry expertise

An audience comprising 320 of Myanmar’s professional HR community attended the Myanmar HR Industry Mid-Year Conference on Thursday 11th October at the Novotel Max Yangon. Powered by JobNet the conference was presented as part of JobNet’s professional series that encourages the sharing of knowledge and experience to ensure the continued development of the human resources industry in Myanmar.

Mr. Matt De Luca, MD JobNet said that the topics presented by both local and international human resources specialists were highly relevant in Myanmar today. “A company’s most important asset is its people,” he said, “Without the right team, with the right skills and attitude; a company will struggle to grow. The experiences shared by presenters who have international experience proved that many of the challenges that HR professionals are facing in Myanmar are the same as those faced by their counterparts overseas.”

Session 1:

Mr. De Luca commenced the conference; sharing data from JobNet’s recently published Employment Industry Market Report. This included insight into the most competitive job functions that companies have recruited for this year, as well as which job roles attract the least applications, leading companies to search for repatriates and further afield for expats. His presentation also included the launch of JobNet’s MY CV Database technology feature for HR departments who want to digitize the storage of their CVs.

Session 2

This was followed by a panel discussion titled “Using data to make business-critical and strategic decisions”,  moderated by Mr. Nyan Toe, Group HR Director, Max Group, with panelists Ms. Swe Zin Thet, HR Director, AYA Bank and Ms. Khaing Su Wai, HR Director, British American Tobacco.

Session 3

Earlier this year JobNet partnered international independent management consulting company, Roland Berger, in conducting a survey with 757 respondents, about the attraction and retention of employees in Myanmar. At Thursday’s conference, Mr Thomas Klotz, Managing Partner, South East Asia for Roland Berger, shared some of the survey’s findings. Among the take-aways from his presentation was that 83% of international companies and 72% of local firms stated that the lack of trained staff was a significant issue. However 54% of employees at small companies, and 31% of employees at large companies, stated that they received no training at all in the workplace.

Session 4

Expanding on the subject of employee retention, Mr. Luc de Waegh, MD and Mr Mathieu Conagh, Business Development Director from international training company Dale Carnegie gave a rousing presentation titled “The emotional drivers of employee engagement”.
