2020 MEA Winner Highlight - Coca Cola Pinya Beverages Myanmar

The Myanmar Employer Awards (powered by JobNet Myanmar) congratulates Coca Cola Pinya Beverages Myanmar for being a 2020 International Gold Winner for Best Use Of Internal Marketing For Company Pride, Best Career Advancement Program, Best CSR For Community Engagement, and the highly coveted People’s Choice award, and Best Of The Best award.

Coca Cola Pinya Beverages Myanmar has proudly produced beverages locally in Myanmar since June 2013, when Coca-Cola Pinya Beverages Myanmar (CCPBM) celebrated the inauguration of its first bottling plant in the country. CCPBM employs nearly 1,300 people locally in Myanmar and supports more than 18,000 indirect employment opportunities across its value chain. The company prioritizes the development of local staff by rolling out a comprehensive capability building program across all functions: sales, marketing, production and supply chain, admin, finance and IT, and since 2013, has provided more than 400,000 hours of learning and development initiatives for employees, including leadership training for our front-line managers and supervisors, extensive safety training including diverse topics such as food safety and defensive driving. With a strong presence throughout the year at university career fairs in order to interact with and recruit potential employees for the company, their internship program helps CCPBM establish and maintain relationships with key universities in Myanmar and enhance CCPBM’s potential to recruit highly capable fresh graduates. 

In the community, Coca-Cola has been partnering with Pact Myanmar on a women’s empowerment initiative, called Swan Yi, providing capacity building training focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and business management, providing women with skills to start or expand their own businesses. The program has empowered more than 40,000 women in Yangon, Mandalay and Sagaing Regions, as well as Shan and Mon State. Also in partnership with Pact, Coca-Cola is bringing safe drinking water and basic sanitation infrastructure to more than 13,800 villagers in Myanmar. Moreover, Coca-Cola has partnered with World Vision (Myanmar) for a water management program that not only provides safe drinking water and basic sanitation infrastructure at schools in Mandalay but also provides agricultural water to farmers in Seik Phyu township of Magway Region. The company has also expanded their “Leht Li” Business Skills Training Program in partnership with the International Labour Organization and Ministry of Industry’s Department of SME Development, and have trained more than 10,000 retailers and SMEs and 120 trainers. 

As part of Coca-Cola’s global “World Without Waste'' commitment with ambitious global targets made on packaging recovery, packaging innovation and also partnerships on recycling and packaging recovery initiatives around the world, CCPBM has recently initiated the “Tan Bo Shi Tal” campaign that aims to raise awareness on the importance of waste segregation and recycling. Coca-Cola has supported initiatives to promote a clean environment and raising awareness on the importance of waste segregation and recycling, including the ‘Doh Eain’ garden alleyway revitalization project, Building Market’s project to scale up the waste collection and recycling rate, Trash Hero, JCI Myanmar in clean-up activities and partnering with the social enterprise Hla Day to produce artisan crafts made from recycled Coca-Cola materials.

The company took home three Gold Trophies for the 4th edition of the Myanmar Employer Awards, as well as the People’s Choice award and Best of the Best award for the international category.

The Best Use of Internal Marketing for Company Pride award recognizes organizations that highlight their practice of an effective internal marketing strategy aimed at cultivating a strong sense of belonging and morale among employees, while showing evidence that the internal marketing approach has been successful, directly correlating with positive improvements in employee attraction and retention. 

The Best Career Development Program recognizes organizations that have a sound graduate development or management trainee plan that foresees not only the initial recruitment process, but also the ongoing training and development for their employees.

The Best CSR For Community Engagement recognizes organizations who demonstrate and highlight their corporate social responsibility objectives, strategies/programs and outcomes relating to community engagement as well as their impact on employee engagement. Furthermore, companies must point out how the organization relates its CSR strategy to its overall corporate agenda and exemplifies its values.

And last but not least, the company took home the highly coveted People’s Choice award, and Best of the Best award in the International category.

The People’s Choice award was presented to 1 local and 1 international company with the highest number of votes from the community. The 100% online anonymous survey was open for 20 days, and was available to anyone in Myanmar. Voters could enter the survey and choose to vote for their favorite company, but any duplicate votes were cleaned before the final count. This year, online voting attracted over 30,000 votes in total, marking a new record for the Myanmar Employer Awards. 

The Best of the Best award is given to 1 local and 1 international company with the highest number of awards won. 

The company also won 2 Silver awards for Best Learning And Development Program, and Most Innovative Use Of Technology In HR.
