The Independent Lawyers’ Association of Myanmar (ILAM) is the first national
independent professional organisation of lawyers in Myanmar. The ILAM launched in
January 2016 at an event hosted by the Parliamentary Committee on Rule of Law
and Tranquility and the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute. Its
elected Central Executive Committee has already made progress with a range of
initiatives on behalf of its 3000+ members.
The ILAM is about the obtain funding for the development of a fully staffed
Secretariat and is seeking to recruit a full time Project Manager to assist the
Executive Director with the organisational development of the ILAM and to assist
with the implementation of projects determined by the Central Executive Committee
of ILAM.
The Project Manager will work with the Executive Director to develop, source
funding for, and deliver projects in line with ILAM’s constitutional objectives and
directions given by CEC members. The Project Manager will also provide support to
the Executive Director as required and will be expected to be flexible and willing to
take on new projects, roles and responsibilities at the Executive Director’s request.
1. Develop draft agendas, programmes and materials for events, conferences
and research projects;
2. Coordinate logistics for events including booking rooms, organising travel etc
3. With the assistance of the Executive Director, identify and engage speakers,
consultants and others where necessary;
4. Coordinate with speakers, consultants, ILAM members and others to ensure
the smooth running of relevant events, conferences and projects;
5. Together with the Finance and Administration Officer, manage payment of
suppliers;
6. Report on projects in line with donor requirements;
7. Keep Executive Director informed of issues and challenges related to project
implementation;
8. Follow up on outcomes from meetings, conferences, workshops as necessary;
9. Maintain the website and draft newsletters in line with developed ILAM policy

Job Requirements

a. University graduate in law
b. Excellent organization, communication and administrative skills
c. Diplomatic skills and experience of dealing with senior level officials and
other individuals
d. At least three years’ experience in a project management role (in an NGO or
in business)
e. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and
Outlook
f. Fluency in Myanmar
g. Working knowledge of English – fluency not essential but must be able to
communicate in spoken and written English
