Job Description

A Big Opportunity for ...

Reporting to the FLEGT Secretariat Manager, the Communications Officer will:
a) Assist the ITF/MSG prepare a FLEGT communications strategy, where necessary seeking advice from external specialist organisations;
b) Prepare (or arrange preparation of) written, visual and aural communications material for use by stakeholder representatives in explaining FLEGT to their constituencies, and on FLEGT and its aims for wider dissemination to the general public;
c) Prepare translations (or arrange translations of) material describing FLEGT from English to Myanmar and, where necessary, other ethnic languages in predominant use in Myanmar;
d) Prepare summary translations into English of Myanmar language material produced in relevant meetings, workshops and consultations;
e) Keep track of relevant events and news and disseminate information of interest via the ITF/MSG membership and other networks;
f) Arrange development and hosting of a bilingual (Myanmar-English) FLEGT web site, and keep it up-to-date with fresh information, both on FLEGT in Myanmar and relevant news from other countries;
g) Arrange for other media, such as Facebook and Twitter accounts and email newsletters, using ICT, to keep stakeholders informed about FLEGT;
h) Provide information on Myanmar’s FLEGT process to Myanmar media (TV, press, radio), including approved press releases following significant events.
i) Perform any other tasks assigned.

Job Requirements

The Communications Officer will have:
a) At least bachelor degree in communications, journalism or similar;
b) 5 years’ experience in a communications role in an organisation engaged in international activities;
c) Ability to use business software (Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, simple web design, publishing) ;
d) Fluency in written and spoken Myanmar and English languages and ability to prepare accurate and easily understood information material in both languages at short notice;
