Job Description

An Exciting Opportunity for ...

WWF and SCI will support the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Environmental Conservation Department (ECD) to develop an Environment Action Club Kit (large eco-boxes) of curriculum, tools, and material that will be used in weekly activities. Using the established platform of regular monitoring and cluster activities conducted by Township Education Offices, Assistant Township Education Officers, Cluster Heads, and Mentor Teachers will lead peer learning activities for teachers and parents facilitating the Environmental Action Clubs. Schools will also participate in an Environment Action Club Awards ceremony, with an external panel evaluating the projects annually.

Duration: 35 days, during mid-August and November 2019

Location of assignment: Yangon, Myanmar, with short trips to Nay Pyi Taw and 4-6 townships across Magway Region and Kayah State

2. Pilot Project Goal and Location:
The programme has the following goal and expected outcomes:
A. Children increase their knowledge, values and skills needed to conserve and improve their school and community environment
B. Communities and duty bearers have increased knowledge about environmental issues via promoted behavioural changes from the children community
C. The children and youth environment action clubs are taking actions in their community through awareness raising activities and mobilising community actions and are advocating local duty bearers for environmentally sustainable solutions and behaviour.

The project will be implemented in Magway Region and Kayah State.

 Development of curriculum
 Development and Distribution of Eco-Boxes
 Validation Workshop and Finalization in Nay Pyi Taw
 Training of Master Trainers

Job Requirements

Selection criteria
Essential areas of expertise:
a) Graduate degree in relevant environmental discipline. An additional degree in education is
an asset
b) Understanding of environmental issues in Myanmar
c) Experience in project-based learning is an asset
d) Experience with environmental education/training (in Myanmar is an asset)
d) Familiarity with frameworks and sensitivities related to gender issues
e) Experience with school curriculum development is an asset
f) Experienced trainer of trainers or adults
g) Network in environmental training in Myanmar
h) Familiarity with national primary and/or secondary school setting in Myanmar
i) Myanmar national with fluent English language.
