Position Purpose

Responsible for managing the full range of processes which ensure Wave Money is kept fully compliant with all company legislation and regulation and keeping members of the Board fully informed of their legal responsibilities. The role is also responsible for ensuring Wave Money adheres to best practice in terms of meeting its governance requirements and coordinating access to cost efficient and effective legal advice and guidance.


Principal Accountabilities

Legal Support
• Carry out corporate in-house legal work (e.g. drafting of agreements) to an appropriate standard
• Provision of in-house legal advice on relevant matters
• Monitor changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment taking appropriate action to ensure Wave Money is in compliance with these changes
• Translate applicable law to provide practical guidance to staff where relevant new legislation is introduced.
• Act as principal point of contact with company solicitors. Closely manage this relationship to ensure value for money in terms of advice being given. Co-ordinate the escalation of matters where necessary and responses received. Closely monitor the time and budget spent on legal advice.
• Review beneficiary grant agreements and consultant contracts on an on-going basis to ensure that Wave Money’s interests are protected at all times
• Co-ordinate with Directorates on projects requiring legal support to ensure efficient management and governance
• Maintain and manage the company contracts and contracts register
• Provision of a full administration service to the Board to ensure it operates effectively and in accordance with legislative, good governance requirements and company/group policies and procedures
• Ensure that the Company is compliant to all Laws and Regulations and maintain all the documents and records of the Company.
• Ensure that all statutory compliance and filing obligations in all legal areas affecting the company are adhere to.

• Performance: Develop and implement the full range of processes which ensure Wave Money is kept fully compliant with all company legislation and regulation; Keeping members of the Board fully informed of their legal responsibilities.
• Client focus and orientation: Anticipates constraints in the delivery of DMM’s services and proactively identifies, develops and discusses solutions or alternatives
• Results-based improvement and management: Identifies business strategies using a fact-based approach; Ensure effective operation of DMM strategies and business sustainability.
• Leadership and people management: Contribute towards building a high-performance culture by communicating an energizing and compelling vision for future growth, underpinned by challenging business targets and creation of the conditions for success.

This position is required to communicate with various stakeholders such as, national counterparts, regulators and government authorities, partner organizations, corporate clients, investors, financial sponsor, business partners and suppliers, peers and community.

Job Requirements

Qualifications / Functional Skills/ Knowledge Areas

• Bachelor or master’s degree in law, Accounting, Finance, or related field • Company Secretary (CS), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified or Internal Auditor (CIA) professional certification (or equivalent) is beneficial.
• 5 years progressively responsible experience in legal environment
• Strong knowledge of corporate law
• Understanding of social inclusion issues and the contribution of the community and voluntary sector to local development, inclusion, equality and reconciliation
• Proficient in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, databases,
• Knowledge of the requirements for effective report writing
• Ability to comprehend and interpret policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines
• Proficiency in English (both oral & written) for effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skill in presenting findings and recommendations.
• Analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities
• Effective team player and able to work independently
