Public relations managers are tasked with fielding media questions and pitching stories to the media, preparing media kits and organizing press conferences. In addition to writing press releases, they write speeches for organizational leaders, develop advertising and marketing communications material and prepare articles for corporate newsletters. Public relations managers also release information to counter negative publicity and handle crisis and emergency communications.
• Support the wider organisation in producing effective communication in line with the Back-up brand and key objectives
• Manage a range of on and off-line media(Update, Byte size, etc) that effectively communicates Back-Up’s key messages, including managing Back-Up’s photo library
• Oversee the maintenance of necessary systems to support PR Communications in conjunction with the rest of the team
• Manage and support key stakeholders (Patrons and Ambassadors) in order to increase Back-Up’s awareness
• Manage a range of service providers(printers, agencies) that will support Back-Up’s key messages
• Manage budgets relating to PR & Communications
• Participate in the senior management of the organisation, attending trustee board meetings and preparing board papers specific to communications
• Develop appropriate policies and ensure existing best practice is understood and adhered to
• Keep up to date with best practice and current trends in charity communications
• Assist in occasional duties which the Chief Executive may request from time to time.

Job Requirements

• Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
• Knowledge and experience of working in the third sector
• Working in a small charity Environment Experience of developing and delivering a PR & Communication strategy Must be a confident communicator.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills
• Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships
• Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail
• Possess the ability to keep information confidential
• Tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms
• Ability to work in high-stress environments, often for long hours
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude
• Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
• Knowledge and understanding of key issues in disability
• Experience of budget setting and monitoring
• Staff management and interpersonal skills
