Introduction:
We are looking for a full-time Research Officer who will join our project implementation team to help conduct economic, political, and social research on Myanmar. The research officer will be attached to a long-term project, helping to produce regular reports for an international development agency.
The ideal candidate will be acutely aware of Myanmar’s current affairs, and will have a keen interest in understanding the country’s political and economic trajectory. They will be creative, inquisitive, open-minded, analytical, a quick thinker and a fast learner. Ideally, you will have a good network of contacts across the country - businesspeople, NGO workers, journalists, researchers, etc. You should be willing to travel often to all States and Regions, and conduct work on sensitive or challenging topics.
You will be working with a team of international economists and political scientists, helping to deliver original insights that will ultimately be used to inform international development policy and programming in the country.
Job Description/tasks:
› Help build a network of key informants and researchers across the country.
› Conduct social media analysis and follow news pieces, from both online and offline sources.
› Help to set-up, and conduct interviews with key informants, writing up notes and reports.
› Conduct literature reviews or secondary data analysis and write up sections in reports.
› Help to facilitate monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports on Myanmar’s transition.
› Translate documents from English to Burmese, and from Burmese to English.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
› Myanmar national, with at least 1 year experience working in a relevant sector.
› Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
› Bachelor’s degree in English, Economics, Journalism, Political Science, Social Science or a related field.
› Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
