Main function

The main function of the community engagement officer will be to effectively engage local communities to identify their needs, facilitate the development of a strategy, and carry out consultations and implementation of FPIC. Once the project’s inception phase is complete, the Officer will be responsible for ensuring that best community engagement practices are followed and provide support to the project manager for effective implementation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Start dialogue with the local communities to understand their needs and challenges and communicate and socialize WWF’s inclusive conservation approach
  • In coordination with communities facilitators and other stakeholders, facilitate the strategy development process. This will include (a) identifying needs and challenges (b) collecting necessary data (c) developing a theory of change (d) identifying roles and responsibilities (e) developing a monitoring mechanism
  • Provide training to and raise awareness of the communities on WWF’s policies and complaint resolution mechanism
  • During the project implementation phase, continue engagement with the communities to ensure task specific consultations and implementation of FPIC
  • Represent WWF in the field by regularly joining community meetings, consultations, and  workshops
  • Support the project manager on community based forest monitoring

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in conservation, natural resource management, social development or relevant fields
  • 3 years of practical experience in community development  or community natural resource management work in NGOs or development agencies in Myanmar
  • Experience of working with local communities and CSOs
  • Experience in working with community enterprise development, experience in forest based or non-timber forest product based livelihood is an advantage
  • Proven understanding of issues in related fields and working knowledge of policy/institutional context in Community based resource management in Myanmar
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Karen language
