An Exciting Opportunity for ...

  • The Deputy Operations Manager (DOM) is accountable for all HSSE aspects on the terminals/depots/airport apron operations in accordance with the Company HSSE policies.
  • Own and drive the Safety Management System and maintain compliance.
  • Meet requirements of locally legislated regulations and standards.
  • Personal Leadership – set high personal standards, lead by example, ensure follow through and demonstrate commitment to building a motivated workforce.
  • Management of the entire fuel operations functions.
  • Provide adequate resources to operate and maintain the site. Including the preparation and maintenance of shift rosters and leave schedules to ensure the most efficient use of airport personnel and efficient apron service.
  • Recruit, train & coach staff to develop a highly skilled team, dedicated to ‘getting it right first time, every time’. Ensure all staff is competent to carry out their roles.
  • Carrying out routine task observations on his staff.
  • Communicate and ensure compliance around all PUMA standards expectations including JIG.
  • Take active interest in all staff’s wellbeing to ensure they are physically and mentally fit to carry out their duties and if they are not seek ways of facilitating a recovery.

  • Manage industrial relations and disciplinary procedures in accordance with company personnel manual, conditions of employment, union agreement as appropriate.
  • The implementation of correct quality control procedures in accordance with Puma Energy Global Aviation standards.
  • The maintenance of satisfactory documentation.
  • The quality of product received by the terminals/depots 
  • The quality of product stored and handled within the terminals/depots
  • The quality of product transferred to the into airplanes and/or sold to the customers at the airport
  • The training of all staff at the sites who are nominated as Product Quality Inspectors.
  • Effective management of all Site risks including applying tools to recognize and minimize risk
  • Thorough application of Management of Change
  • Ensuring that all staff are competent to carry out their assigned duties
  • Optimizing the efficiency of the operation
  • Implementation of recommendations from various audits.
  • Accountable for all administrative duties in the depot. This includes but not limited to Sales, stock management, overtime, petty cash, record keeping, data inputting.
  • Routinely checking the accuracy of all business tasks when performed by his staff.
  • Assisting with the compiling of Capital and Revenue Budget proposals for the Depot and implementing and controlling the Revenue budget.
  • Reporting of management information to the appropriate levels in the organization
  • The DOM is the Company’s airport representative at the site and should be continually alert for new possible business opportunities.
  • Accountable for communicating stock requirements, taking into account any changes in demand patterns.
  • Accountable for the stock control at the airport and being able to identify trends, irregularities and implementing remedial action.
  • The DOM is accountable for the maintenance of all fixed assets and fixed and mobile equipment in the depot. This includes ensuring there are appropriate site specific preventative maintenance schedules in place for all equipment and that these are current.
  • The DOM is accountable for ensuring that sufficient spare-parts for continuity of operation are available and properly stored, and that replenishment orders are timorously made.
  • These tasks must be recorded in Defects Report and handed to the Maintenance Manager for prompt action
  • The DOM must follow-up with the Maintenance Manager, necessary actions required to make equipment and facility safe to operate.
  • Manage the logistics functions to ensure Puma transport standards and safety compliance across all transporters.

    Maintain efficiency across road, rail and fluvial modes of transportation
  • Representative to the Board meetings
  • Representative to attend government and/or authority meetings
  • Maintain good customer relationships with all stakeholders.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering or a Business Management discipline
  • Ideally a recognised 3 year post school qualification in a Technical field.
  • A minimum 3 years Petroleum Terminal Operations experience or 3 years experience Airport Refuelling Operations
  • Work experience in a technical field including on airport work is an added advantage.
  • Operating of heavy plant & equipment.
  • Product quality control of fuels
  • Business management and leadership experience
  • Change management
