An Exciting Opportunity for ...

To take overall responsibility to maintain machinery belonging to both ASIC and Pahtama seeds. The machinery shall include tractors, all implement, auxiliary attachments, workshop tools and spare parts. The role is a hands-on technical role that will require frequent trips to country areas where machinery is being used and stored. The Machinery Supervisor will be responsible to ensure farm staff operate, maintain and store machinery and will be responsible to monitor this on a regular basis. In addition, the Machinery Supervisor will be required to either perform or contract out, repair work as required.

  • The initial focus shall be to work with local service providers to repair an inventory of tractors and implements belonging to ASIC
  • Longer term the focus shall shift to implement, and be accountable for, a process of regular maintenance checks, to be carried out by operators assigned to use the machinery. Such maintenance checks to covers all facets of machine and implement operation including safe use e.g functioning lights, guards, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Farm Management, maintain a log of operating hours to ensure prompt servicing.
  • As and when necessary, train field staff on the correct use and maintenance of machinery. In case of damage or loss to machinery, investigate the cause and implement systems to prevent a recurrence.
  • Carry out minor repair works.
  • The Machinery Supervisor will maintain an inventory of essential spare parts which is to be documented.
  • In the event that major repair work is required, work with local mechanics to have the machinery repaired.
  • The Machinery Supervisor shall also be required to take the lead on any machine modification with direction and support from management.

Critical Knowledge:

  • Strong mechanical skills, especially with diesel engines.
  • A service-based mentality where prevention is critical to improve efficiency

Critical Skills and Experience

  • Proven machinery repair skills
  • An ability to maintain an inventory of spare parts, manuals, etc., in a logical order.
  • A proven ability to take decisions and to prioritise work programs.
  • An ability to manage staff and to operate in an efficient manner.
