Job Description

 

Guiding principles.The Principal: 

 

Supports and advances the Mission and Values of the School. 

Supports student learning and achievement through cooperative effort and best practices. 

Supports and promotes the curriculum based upon the IB goals and mission. 

Supports and advances international education. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities Administration.The Principal:  

 

  • Focus school community while implementing policies on education of the Republic of Lithuania, initiate and implement the PYP of the IBO. 

  • Familiarize school community with the national and the PYP policies. 

  • Coordinate  activities of the School Council. 

  • Serves as the academic leader of the early childhood/primary and the PYP programs directly responsible for the general organization and efficient administration of such programs. 

  • Assumes the responsibility for creating and maintaining a school culture indicative of a professional learning community.  

  • Remains informed and supportive of all school policies and regulations.  

  • Works collaboratively with the administrative team, keeping everyone informed of activities and special events at the primary school level. 

  • Plans and approves budget by submitting requests for instructional needs after careful analysis and collaborative discussions with teachers.  

  • Develops a public relations programme in order to further the community’s understanding and support of the educational program. 

  • Is responsible for establishing, maintaining and developing an effective programme for students in the school; 

  • Supports curriculum review and the PYP planning processes. 

 

Financial management. The Principal: 

 

  • Makes an accurate list of „Universa Via“ international school financial requirements relating to capital development, books, materials and supplies, maintenance needs, professional development and any other costs in preparation for the development of the annual school budget. 

  • Acts as a liaison person between the business manager and the primary school faculty, as necessary. 

  • Takes care of school‘s material and financial resources. 

 

Public relations. The Principal: 

 

  • Collects information about state and changes of the school. 

  • Observes information and written material for the school’s website and school documentation. 

  • Replies promptly and professionally to parent and teacher inquiries regarding the school and its programmes. 

  • Approves dates for  ‘open day’ opportunities for the community and appoints persons responsible for organizing the ‘open day’ . 

  • Promotes the school in the wider community. 

  • Liaises with institutions of further and higher education. 

  • Ensures, through various means of communication, that the community is aware of urgent matters.  

 

Professional Development. The Principal: 

  • Coordinates, in conjunction with the IB PYP curriculum coordinator, the organization of a programme of in-service training and support for teachers, which reflects the school’s mission, philosophy and aims. 

  • Encourages teachers to undertake professional development, for both personal and institutional goals. 

  • Reviews teachers' lesson planning and classroom performance through classroom observations and personal interviews. 

  • Evaluates each teacher’s performance through regular observations and written evaluation which is submitted to teachers, the deputy and the PYP coordinator. 

  • Helps programme staff to recognize their strengths and exercising these through IB and school pathways. 

 

Pastoral Care and Discipline. The Principal: 

  • Collabortaes with teachers, parents, teacher specialists and other institutions.  

  • Analyses and assesses plans. 

  • Organizes making and developing of PYP planners. 

  • Observes processes of the PYP education. 

  • Collects information about status and changes of the PYP in the school. 

  • Manages the work of the Commission of Child‘s welfare and represents or assigns a representative at National agency. 

  • Models, and seeksto ensure that school community adheres to, the traits of the learner profile. 

  • Establishes and maintains a clear process of pastoral care for the purpose of preventing serious student problems from developing and dealing with those problems which may arise. 

  • Establishes, maintains and follows a clear process of dealing with offenders and sharing information with all relevant parties. 

  • Liaises with form teachers regarding individual students’ needs and producing procedures to meet those needs. 

  • Liaises with outside special needs agencies when appropriate. 

 

Behaviour and Safety. The Principal: 

  • Establishes a safe, purposeful and stimulating school environment, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly. 

  • Maintaining good relationships with students, personnel and parents and exerces appropriate authority. 

  • Is a positive role model and demonstrating consistently the IB learner profile traits and attitudes. 

  • Has high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners. 

  • Carrying out playground and other duties as directed.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in teaching or relevant field. Must be Native Speaker A minimum of 7 years experience as a teacher. In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.
