Major Function

The senior officer will contribute to reducing the illegal wildlife trade originating from and flowing through DTL.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Understand landscape conservation objectives and work with the supervisor to develop a long term plan to address illegal wildlife trade
  2. Work with the supervisor to operationalize the long term plan for each year, developing a detailed work plan for each priority strategy
  3. Conduct survey and market studies to estimate the scale and impact of wildlife trade.
  4. Identify the drivers of wildlife trade, starting from the source of supply to final demand as well identify the actor involved in the supply chain and how they operate
  5. Contribute to the closing of illegal wildlife trade market by engaging authorities and providing technical support on closing down the markets
  6. Work with authorities to set-up and manage mobile trade and market monitoring units to monitor and report wildlife trade along main trading routes and markets

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor and/or Master degree in conservation, wildlife trade or related field
  • 3+ years of on the ground work experience in illegal wildlife trade
  • Experience in doing market survey and engaging with traders
  • Strong interest in environment and biodiversity conservation
  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate with different stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and Myanmar language
  • Fluency in Karen language is an asset
