Work alongside a general education teacher to assist a student who is in a general classroom

Help develop and implement a student’s individualised education program (IEP)

Assess children’s skill levels, academically and socially

Adapt learning materials to students’ needs

Monitor children’s behavioural patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed

Find engaging activities to teach skills (e.g. drawing , music)

Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict

Prepare students for transition to the next phase of learning

Perform regular testing and assessments

Keep track of and reflect on students’ progress

Coordinate progress reports

Keep accurate records

Provide one-on-one tutoring

Apply a variety of special educational skills and techniques to reach students in different ways

Teach and reinforce socially-acceptable behaviours

Modify lesson plans to align with a student’s IEP
