Background of assignment
We are WWF, one of the world’s leading nature conservation organisations. We have been working for nearly 60 years and have offices in 100 countries, and started the programme in Myanmar in 2014 just before the country’s first democratic elections. In Myanmar, as in the rest of South East Asia, rubber plantations have been a major focus of attention on the agricultural sector. WWF Myanmar is committed to the design of trustworthy scoreboard that efficiently the rubber supply chains of the country and allow international buyers to validate that the rubber satisfy high sustainability standards and can be sold at premium markets.
Project Description
The project consists in four stages, namely; 1) Identification of regional and international ESG standards for the commercialization of sustainable natural rubber (SNR); 2) Evaluation of potential markets for Myanmar’s SNR; 3) Design of locally aware ESG scoreboards that reflect the requirements identified in the previous stages; and 4) Design of robust monitoring strategies to collect and validate the information required for the scoreboards. The conceptualization of these four stages has been strategically designed to produce a guidance that both international companies and key local stakeholders can implement to identify and support that the parts of the rubber supply chain present in Myanmar follow competitive and sustainable standards that foster livelihoods and protect key ecosystems.
