The Product Manager is responsible for managing and growing the paint product category within the wholesale and distribution business. This role focuses on sourcing high-quality coating products, managing supplier relationships, developing competitive pricing strategies, and driving profitability while ensuring strong market positioning.
Key Responsibilities
Category & Product Strategy (Paint Focus)
Develop and execute category strategies specifically for paint, coatings, and related products
Analyze market trends in decorative paints, industrial coatings, and construction-related applications
Manage full product lifecycle (introduction, growth, maturity, phase-out)
Identify new product opportunities such as eco-friendly paints, waterproofing solutions, and specialty coatings
Ensure product portfolio aligns with contractor, project, and retail demand
Supplier & Technical Management
Source and onboard paint manufacturers and coating solution providers (local & international)
Build strong partnerships with product principals and technical teams
Evaluate product specifications (coverage, durability, drying time, VOC levels, etc.)
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and exclusive distribution agreements
Coordinate import processes and regulatory compliance (if applicable)
Ensure product quality meets industry standards
Pricing & Profitability Management
Develop competitive pricing strategies for wholesale, contractors, and project sales
Monitor cost structure including raw material trends (e.g., pigments, resins)
Manage margins and profitability across different product lines
Implement bulk pricing and project-based pricing strategies
Analyze landed cost and recommend pricing adjustments
Sales & Technical Support
Work closely with sales teams to support contractors, developers, and project clients
Provide product knowledge training (paint systems, application methods, surface preparation)
Support tender submissions and technical specifications for large projects
Collaborate with marketing on product launches, color campaigns, and promotions
Demand Planning & Inventory Management
Forecast demand based on project pipeline and seasonal trends
Plan inventory levels for fast-moving and specialty paint products
Monitor slow-moving SKUs and minimize stock aging
Coordinate with supply chain to ensure consistent availability
Market Intelligence & Reporting
Track competitor brands, pricing, and product innovations in paint industry
Analyze sales performance by product category and customer segment
Prepare monthly reports with actionable insights and growth recommendations
