Job Purpose: The Head of English Department is responsible for leading the English department in Primary Level. He/ She will carry out the professional duties of a school teacher and a head. He/ She will ensure to meet the high standards of promoting to teaching and learning, to be able to manage the use of resources and to be part of the creative development of the English curriculum. Line Management: Reporting to – Group Head of Primary and Head of Primary Responsible for – Primary English Department, English Subject Teachers and Trainee teachers of English Department Responsibilities as a Head of English department: Leadership and management To be an effective and active member of the whole primary department To work towards the school mission and vision To understand and implement the school policies and procedures To lead and develop the learning of all students and teachers in the department to ensure excellence To motivate and work with others to create and develop a positive, collaborative and cooperative culture To oversee the day-to-day management, control and operation within the department To undertake other reasonable duties related to the job purpose required from time to time To be responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of the department’s staff and physical resources To actively monitor and keep track of students’ progress and implement intervention where necessary To monitor and ensure the termly test papers and the end of the termly reports of the students To manage your own workload and that of others in the department to allow for an appropriate work/ life balance. To effectively distribute tasks throughout the department ensuring and monitoring their successful completion. To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent or on leave, ensuring suitable cover within the department, liaising with the head of primary to secure the appropriate cover To chair department meetings and to provide a detailed agenda and minutes in a timely manner. To provide regular progress updates to Primary SLT members to ensure that they are fully aware of all successes, issues and concerns in the subject areas To undertake performance appraisals within the own department To participate in the interview process for the English teaching posts as needed and to ensure effective induction of new staff in line with school procedures To actively promote the department withing the school community to encourage pupils’ interest in the subject area. To contribute to the positive promotion and marketing of the school and lead the department’s contribution to marketing events and external links. To organize and run events to promote the necessary skills to the school community Training and development of the team To provide regular coaching and constructive feedback to improve teachers’ good practice To identify the needs of the team members for their profession and conduct or arrange the appropriate internal or external training Teaching To inspire our learners through well-organized and creative lessons that enable all students are aligned with the curriculum and make progress. To monitor, assess and record the progress of all students, providing effective constructive feedback To have a yearly plan, termly plan and a weekly plan for the academic year constantly reflecting on the lessons and amending as needed To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment, inspiring classroom displays and creating appropriate resources To keep updated on pedagogical, syllabus and general educational initiatives and developments supporting colleagues, taking an active role in all meetings and training, and taking responsibility for his/ her own professional growth.
Updates and maintains the School database with student details. Keeps accurate records of student attendance and communicates any absences to the academic team in a timely manner. Responsible for coordinating with the parents and teachers to the right solutions about any incident/ accident cases of students and record-keeping in a timely manner. Ensure student feedback is obtained in order to maintain the highest levels of the student’s and parents’ satisfaction. Ensures any student service issues are effectively managed to a successful resolution, providing a clear and customer-focused summary of the issue resolution to all relevant staff. Responsible for feedback calls of parents as per time schedule (every term) and reporting to management (as necessary). Accurate reporting and recording of any safeguarding or child protection incidents. Coordinating any other duties, as required regularly or occasionally, to ensure the smooth running of admissions and student services at the school. To represent the first point of contact for students, and visitors, and also assist with all aspects of administrative support for school programs. To handle special student cases, including students experiencing significant personal and academic difficulties.. To lead campus webinars, prospective student visits and other conversion activities to support enrollment growth of the school.
