What we do

Turquoise Mountain has been working in Myanmar since 2014. Since then, we have supported over
1,700 artisans across 20 craft traditions including textiles, goldsmithing and lacquerware. We have also restored 8 heritage buildings in Yangon, including 491-501 Merchant Street in Yangon’s historic
downtown, the landmark Tourist Burma Building and a 1920s teak villa which now serves as a cultural centre and houses Turquoise Mountain’s jewellery studio, weaving and textiles atelier, an eco-friendly dye yard and offices.

Job Purpose The Gold and Silver Handicraft Artisan will work under the supervision and direction of the Jewellery Production Supervisor. The role involves sharing technical knowledge and professional skills with the next generation of jewellery artisans, as well as providing training and guidance. In addition, the artisan is responsible for producing Turquoise Mountain’s jewellery products in accordance with the organization’s quality standards. Since market expansion and customer retention also depend on the contribution of artisans, the role may require assisting in events organized by Turquoise Mountain when needed. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Production Before starting assigned items, coordinate with the Jewellery Production Coordinator to confirm all necessary details, including:Design and style Measurements Metal composition (gold, silver, or other alloys) Production deadlines Material allowance Any additional required information Inspect finished products to ensure there are no defects and that designs meet required standards. Receive orders from the Jewellery Production Coordinator and complete them on time within the allocated materials. Revise or repair items based on feedback from the supervisor or manager. Use materials efficiently and complete assigned tasks within the production plan. Maintain accurate and systematic production records. 2. Training Responsibilities Conduct training sessions for trainee artisans according to instructions from the Craft Programme Manager. Supervise and work closely with individual trainees or groups during the training period. Provide guidance on necessary knowledge, best practices, precautions, and important techniques throughout the training. 3. General Responsibilities Assist in annual (or periodic) gold waste collection processes within the jewellery production team. Contribute ideas and suggestions during departmental meetings to improve production. Identify and discuss production risks, inefficiencies, and innovative ideas within the workshop. Report any damage or malfunction of tools and equipment to the Jewellery Production Supervisor. Assist with urgent tasks assigned by supervisors or management when required. Understand and follow Turquoise Mountain’s mission, policies, and staff regulations. Take responsibility for personal safety and report any issues to the manager or Operations Manager. Purpose of the Position: Under the supervision of the Crafts Production Manager, the Jewellery Production Coordinator is responsible for managing handmade jewellery production, overseeing pricing and raw material usage, supporting design development and training, and ensuring quality and efficiency while maintaining strong relationships with artisan communities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee daily jewellery production and ensure timely completion and delivery of orders. Prepare the technical production work orders and monitor progress from start to finish. Maintain quality control standards across all stages of jewelry production. Conduct fair and transparent pricing discussions with artisans for production orders. Review product costing details received, including material and labor costs for the preparation of final costing. Monitor raw material issuance and track usage for each production batch. Identify and implement measures to reduce material waste and improve production efficiency. Support artists and artisans with design development, sampling, and prototype refinement with the design team. Develop and maintain technical sheets and specifications to guide artisans during production. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to artisans to ensure proper workmanship and finishing. Maintain accurate records of production, costing, and material wastage. Work with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of raw materials and maintain stock levels. Support the Crafts Production Manager in planning and management of regional jewelry artisan training programs. Source semi-precious stones and other required materials for production and product development as and when required. As part of its ongoing programming, TM implements an Artisan Empowerment Training Programme aimed at improving financial literacy, business skills, social empowerment and overall economic resilience among artisans, particularly weavers and silversmiths. Building on this, we are inviting applications from experienced master silversmiths to participate in a 2-month design training and sample development programme focused on Saudi Arabian-themed silver jewellery. With this programme, the selected Master Silversmiths will have the opportunity to contribute to an international design project and explore potential future partnerships. WORK PLAN Learn 925 silver/ sterling silver preparation techniques. Understand design concepts in the context of jewellery making. Develop jewellery designs inspired by Saudi Arabian motifs.
