What we do

Trócaire is the official overseas development agency of the in Ireland. It was set up in 1973 to express the concern of the suffering of the world’s poorest and most oppressed people. Trócaire was given a dual mandate: to support long-term development projects overseas and to provide relief during emergencies; and at home to inform the Irish public about the root causes of poverty and injustice and mobilise the public to bring about global change.

Trócaire opened its office in Myanmar only in 2008 after Cyclone Nargis. Before opening office, all its humanitarian and long term development programmes were implementing and managing from Maynooth office in Ireland. As an outcome of the organisational structure review in 2012, Trocaire has decided to have full country model in Myanmar and now it in place.

Trócaire envisages a just world where people’s dignity is ensured, where rights are respected and basic needs are met; where there is equity in the sharing of resources and where people are free to be the authors of their own development.
