PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Lead Teacher actively participates in planning and implementing the curriculum, working with
parents, assessing the needs of individual children under the guidance of the Senior Teacher.
1. To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment
a) Assists in establishing and maintaining a safe environment for children which is clean, safe, and which is appropriate for each child's developmental level. stimulating
b) Assists the Senior Teacher with the appearance, décor, and leaming environments of the classroom.
c) Assume an equal share of the housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
d) Promote healthy eating practices through participating in family style meals and planning and implementing nutritional activities
e) Assume the role of leadership in absence of the Senior Teacher.
2. To advance physical and intellectual competence
a) Interacts with children in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices as established by NAEYC/MMI guidelines.
b) Ability to manage classroom through positive redirection, problem solving, setting appropriate limits and active listening.
c) Support Senior Teacher in development and implementation of lesson plans.
3. To support social and emotional development and provide guidance
a) Treat each child, co-workers, and parents with dignity and respect.
b) Consider the individual child in relationship to his/her culture and socioeconomic background.
c) Help each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of a group.
4. To establish positive and productive relationships with families
a) Communicate parent questions and concems to Senior Teacher.
b) Communicate your concems about a child's development to the Senior Teacher.
c) Make familles feel welcome into environment, greet parent and child at arrival and departure.
d) Assist with home visits.
e) Offer support to teaching team relaying observations.
f) Parents concerned should be directed and headed by Lead Teacher.
5 To ensure a well run, purposely program responsive to participant needs
a) Maintain daily schedules posted in each room.
b) implement daily, weekly and monthly plans under the guidance of the Senior Teacher.
c) Observe and document individual progress through anecdotal notes, development checkst portfolio assessments, and other designed screenings.
To maintain a commitment to professionalism
a) Upon hire, each employee must begin training to meet MCYS requirements. This training must include first aid communicate disease, and child abuse recognition and prevention CPR as well as other child development topics as required by your director.
b) Attend all staff meetings parent meetings and other mandatory or required in services.
c) Promote MMI code of ethics.
d) Keep open communication with the senior teacher at all times.
e) Maintain professional attitude and loyalty to the program at all times.
f) Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, families, and children at all times.
g) Relate to families in a positive and respectful manner.
h) Be familiar with all pre-school policies.
i)Be involved in pre-school activities such as concert, excunion, promotion events, open houses and all other organized activities of the centre.
