Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Reporting to the GIS Manager and CEO of Valentis Services.

Internal Working Relationships – Valentis Group Management, Valentis Services, VEGS and Business Development Divisions. External Working Relationships – Valentis Partners and Clients, Other Service Providers (sub-contract), Government Ministries and Departments.

Role responsibilities, duties and functions -

• Review the structure of the Valentis GIS and RS databases, client and internal databases and provide a detailed recommendation to management for improved database structures, procedures and systems.
• Implement and manage the development, improvement and ongoing maintenance of the Valentis GIS and RS databases.
• Undertake monthly reporting and meetings with the CEO and Geology Managers.
• Establish a procedure to manage the security and integrity of the database, and a failsafe external data back-up system.
• Establish and maintain appropriate documentation for the database and server systems and procedures to ensure system sustainability and efficient disaster recovery.
• Establish and roll-out new and/or updated field data capture procedures, and provide training of staff in data capture and compliance with the procedures.
• Provide GIS management support for major client projects, including internal and client reporting, auditing and control of product quality and product delivery within set timeframes.
• Provide geospatial technical support to the Group Managers, VS and VEGS Divisions.
• Assist the Business Development Division with spatial GIS support for company marketing.
• Provide or arrange GIS and database training for the VS and VEGS technical division personnel to enable the development of best practice operations in Geospatial data capture, management and outputs.
• Participate in the planning of field programs as required including the creation of field data collection and GIS templates, and software.
• Participate in tender applications and assist in preparation of business proposals requiring the provision of GIS services.
• Assist in the maintenance and periodic updates of the Valentis opportunities portal website.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Geology, Geography or other related Geospatial Technology Stream (Geology, Geography, Forestry Preferred).
• Post-graduate Diploma in GIS/RS.
• At least eight years demonstrated GIS and digital mapping experience.
• Demonstrated experience in managing teams and projects.
• Experience in Spatial Database Management.
• Knowledge in geochemical and geophysical data management.
• Knowledge of technical and commercial data relevant to the mining industry.
• Broad knowledge of the various technical disciplines of the mining industry – Geology, Engineering, Metallurgy, Geotechnical and Environmental.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
