The Magway Division of Myanmar is located very centrally, and it is the second largest of Myanmar’s seven divisions. It is bordered by the Sagaing Division, Mandalay Region, Bago Division and Rakhine State. The capital city of the Magway Division is Magwe. throughout Myanmar much of the infrastructure is outdated or in poor condition and the Magway Division is no exception. The roads definitely need work, but as the division is so central, it is bound to be the recipient of some infrastructure projects, creating jobs for civil engineers and skilled trades/ construction workers. The Magway Division also has railway connections with Naypyitaw, Yangon and Mandalay. Whilst there are roads and trains in Magway Division, the majority of the population uses the Irrawaddy river, both for transport and transporting goods. This provides opportunities for professionals in trading/ distribution/ import/ export as the volume is bound to increase in the coming years. There is also an industrial zone in Magway which calls for various professionals such as those in administrative functions, and accounting/ finance.
Myanmar is experiencing an unprecedented time of economic growth, and foreign investors are clamouring to revamp the infrastructure in order to make more efficient transport systems. The Magway Division is in a central geographical position and uses all of the forms of transport common in Myanmar. Many of these projects such as the The Kyaukpyu Port Project which will create an overland link between Myanmar and southern China are bound to create jobs for this in the engineering/ technical function. The Magway Division also has some resources of its own which provide opportunities for those in the logistics/ distribution function amongst others. Did you know that Magway Division is known as the “oil pot” of Myanmar as it has many oil fields (which also provides opportunities in mining)? Agriculture is also important in Magway as they also import and export rice, sunflower, beans and tobacco. Magway Division is especially famous for its Thanaka.
