A school manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a school or educational institution. Their job is to ensure that the institution runs smoothly and efficiently, and that it provides a safe and nurturing environment for students, staff, and other stakeholders. 

 

Some key responsibilities of a school manager include:

  1. Ensuring that the school meets all legal and regulatory requirements

  2. Developing and implementing policies and procedures together with the principal  that promote the school's mission and objectives

  3. Managing budgets and financial resources to ensure that the school operates within its means

  4.  Hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff for school development 

  5. Maintaining effective communication with staff, students, parents, and other board members

  6. Collaborating with other educational institutions, community organizations, and businesses to create partnerships and opportunities for students

  7. Overseeing maintenance, repairs, and facilities of school facilities and equipment

  8. Coordinating the delivery of quality instruction and ensuring that teachers have the resources and support they need to deliver effective instruction when given the needed resources list with sufficient time. . 

  9. Ensuring that the school maintains a positive public image and advocates for its priorities and interests.

 

A school HR position is responsible for managing all human resources functions in a school or educational institution. This includes hiring, training, and evaluating staff, managing employee benefits, and ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations. 

 

Some key responsibilities of a school HR position include:

  1. Developing and implementing recruiting and hiring processes by finding teachers and staff for hiring at the school

  2. Training staff on school policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations

  3. Managing employee benefits and excuses such as professional development days, bonuses, work dinner/lunch, and sick leaves, holiday leaves, unpaid/paid leaves, etc.

  4. Managing employee salary together with finance team

  5. Ensuring that the school maintains compliance with labor laws and regulations

  6. Conducting regular performance evaluations and providing feedback to employees (teachers’ reports from principal and vice principals, staffs’ reports from manager) 

  7. Mediating conflicts and disputes between employees

  8. Collaborating with school managers and administrators to ensure that HR practices align with the school's mission and policies

Manager Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related field.
  • More education or experience may be preferred or required.
  • Strong understanding of business management, financial, and leadership principles
  • Time and project management skills, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze processes and information, identify problems and trends, and develop effective solutions and strategies

HR Officer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in human resources.
  • Additional training/certification in Payroll Management – may be advantageous.
  • Labor Relations certification – may be advantageous.
  • Experience as a Skills Development Facilitator – may be advantageous.
  • Able to engage in meaningful negotiation and resolution.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Protecting the interests of all employees.
  • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
