JobNet recently hosted their first Myanmar 2023 HR Series event for the year with over 200 HR professionals in attendance. The 2-panel discussions were moderated by Matt De Luca, Co-Founder and Managing DIrector of JobNet. The event also consisted in a networking opportunity, which brought the HR community together to share knowledge and insights through discussions from industry thought leaders. The discussions shed light on employee retention, productivity, career progression, and upskilling strategies within organisations.
The first panel discussion shared innovative strategies and best practices to nurture a positive work culture that fosters employee loyalty and commitment. By acknowledging the correlation between employee engagement and business outcomes, HR professionals gained valuable insights into promoting a motivated workforce.
During the Q&A session of the first panel discussion, an insightful question arose from one of the attendees. They expressed how some companies claim to treat employees like family, but when faced with challenges, they resort to letting employees go or replacing them to cut costs. In response to this concern, one of the esteemed speakers from the panel shared a heartfelt analogy. He compared the role as an HR leader to that of a parent. He explained that, just like a parent, sometimes disciplining or making tough decisions is necessary, but it should always be done with love and kindness.
The second panel discussion honed in on the critical aspects of career development, upskilling, and nurturing internal talent. The growing skill gaps in various industries were addressed, with an emphasis on the role of HR departments in identifying and addressing these gaps proactively.
Matt De Luca shared data and information on recruitment trends. The data highlighted how the job market has become more competitive in Myanmar , showcasing why a strong employer brand is paramount for successful recruitment and talent acquisition.
