Jobs in airlines and aviation in Myanmar can either be up in the air, on the ground, in the control tower, at the airport or in the head office. The type of careers in airlines and aviation vary greatly, depending on the function. Some, such as pilots and engineers require extensive qualifications and training, whereas others, such as jobs at the airport, do not necessarily require a formal education. However, the underlying theme is that the kinds of jobs available in airlines and aviation involve the transportation of people or goods from one location to the other, whether it be domestic or international. When one thinks about careers in airlines and aviation they normally think about pilots, air hostesses and traffic controllers. But there are many steps that lead to to the plane actually taking off. People must first choose their airline, and how they make their choice comes down to various factors. As there is a lot of competition in the airline industry, a good marketing and sales team is required to attract the customers. Once a ticket has been chosen, it needs to be booked, which is normally online, and requires customer service employees and IT professionals to oversee. Once someone has their ticket the must then go to the airport, where they need to check in, then go through customs and luggage control. Jobs in customs and luggage control require a lot of vigilance and attention to detail. Once the luggage has been checked it needs to be loaded onto the plane by luggage handlers, a job which requires physical fitness. All through this process there are operations managers and supervisors making sure that everything is coordinating. All jobs in airlines and aviation can have a certain level of stress, as there are so many things going on at the same time, and there is always the possibility that things can go wrong. However, it can also be rewarding as for many of the roles there is opportunity for travel. Nearly all jobs in airlines and aviation require a command of the English language as that is the international language spoken in this industry.
As the tourism industry in Myanmar grows, so does the airline industry, not only for domestic flights but for international. For many, flying is the most convenient and quickest way to get around. Jobs in the airline and aviation industry are widely varied. To obtain a job as a pilot many years of practical study as well as courses, certifications and qualifications. It is also imperative that pilots are coordinated, quick thinking and responsible. Being a pilot is a wonderfully rewarding job as not only is it well paid, but it allows for international travel. To become an air hostess (or cabin crew) on the other hand does not necessarily require a college education, but a background in hospitality as well as immaculate presentation and a command on at least one other language (normally English) is a prerequisite. There are also sometimes minimum height restrictions as the air host/ hostess will need to reach up to the overhead lockers. To become any time of engineer in the airlines and aviation industry, not only is a degree required, but also a traineeship. It is a very specialised career, and good engineers working in the airline industry need to have superior maths and physics skills as well pay acute attention to detail as there are many lives in their hands. There are also jobs in the airlines and aviation industry in the airport. These could be working in customs, quality control, maintenance, and security as examples. For many of these roles, one does not require a college education, must be alert at all times, have good administrative and computer skills, and also an ability to speak English as that is the language most travellers communicate in.
