What type of jobs are there in entertainment in Myanmar? The term “entertainment” can be a very broad one as people have different preferences on how they like to spend their free time. It could be going to the cinema, going to a sports game, or going and seeing a band, and that is just to start! Jobs you might find in entertainment would be roles that facilitate people enjoying the entertainment. Unless you are the actual entertainer, most of the jobs go on behind the scenes and there is a lot of work in that. To organise an event whether it be in a stadium or a small venue, you need a marketing or events manager to promote using tools such as social media, a graphic designer to create the flyers, and then there is an abundance of logistics to coordinate such as food, drinks etc. for which service staff, shift supervisors as well as ticket checkers: not to mention the HR executives needed to recruit the staff, or the accountants to take care of the financial side. For larger events an events company will often be utilised for the above logistical aspects. Working in entertainment and can be stressful, but fun as so much has to come together on the day, and if anything goes wrong (for example the weather if the event is outdoors) there must be back up plans. But it can also be rewarding, and many of the jobs are flexible so it is a good way to earn some money if you are student.
There are a wide spectrum of jobs possible in entertainment, and as individuals seem to have a higher disposable income in recent times, they have more money to spend on going to the movies, concerts and sporting events. Temporary staff are always needed, and to get one of these jobs such as a waitress or ticket checker you do not need a lot of experience. It is also very flexible for people wanting to work part time if they are studying. Stage crew, who help set up and take down the event also falls into this category. For this you simply need to have physical fitness as there may be heavy lifting involved. Another entry role is working at the cinema, as this also provides casual and flexible hours. For a role in marketing at events, a degree as well as experience, preferably events is normally required as it is a niche occupation. Similarly for a the graphic design aspect as flyers and posters must be created which appeal to the target audience and get their attention. For a sales role in entertainment, a degree is not necessarily required, but experience is a must (as well as a command on the English language). To be an event manager one needs to have not only excellent organisational skills, but also superior communication skills as there is so much to organise at the same time.
