Job Description

Position Title: Accountant 

Department: Finance

Location: Yangon, Myanmar

Reports to: GM/Founder

Salary Range: 600,000 –800,000 MMK per month (based on experience and performance)

 

Summary (Read This First)

The Accountant role is a junior leadership role responsible for managing Elevate Education’s financial operations and supervising the Finance Assistant. This role demands someone who can ensure accurate financial reporting, strong tax compliance, disciplined cash flow management, and timely collections from international partners.

As a junior leader, the accountant must also maintain good relationships with all employees, ensuring finance is seen as a supportive partner in the business, not just a back-office function.

 

Job Purpose

To oversee all financial operations — including accurate recordkeeping, budget and cash flow management, tax compliance, and timely invoicing — while supporting the company’s growth through disciplined financial management and leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities & KPIs

  1. Financial Recordkeeping & Reporting

    • Maintain accurate financial records using cash-basis accounting.

    • KPI: 100% accuracy in monthly financial reports, with zero unresolved discrepancies.

    • KPI: Submit monthly and quarterly financial reports to senior management within 7 working days after period end.

  2. Tax Compliance

    • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual tax returns.

    • KPI: 100% on-time tax submissions with zero penalties or compliance issues.

  3. Cash Flow & Budget Management

    • Oversee accounts payable and receivable to maintain healthy cash flow.

    • KPI: Maintain a minimum 3 months’ operating cash buffer.

    • KPI: Keep actual spending within ±5% variance of approved budgets.

  4. Invoicing & Payment Collection

    • Issue invoices to partner universities and education providers.

    • KPI: 100% invoices sent within 3 working days of service delivery.

    • KPI: Ensure 90% of receivables are collected within agreed terms (30–45 days).

  5. Partner & Stakeholder Coordination

    • Coordinate financial documentation with international education partners.

    • KPI: Zero overdue reconciliation items with partners.

  6. Leadership & Supervision

    • Supervise and mentor the Finance Assistant in daily operations.

    • KPI: Ensure 100% completion of daily finance tasks by the Finance Assistant.

  7. Audit & Risk Management

    • Prepare records for internal/external audits.

    • KPI: Achieve zero major audit findings in annual reviews.

    • Identify financial risks and recommend solutions to management.

  8. Cross-Departmental Support

    • Build strong working relationships with other teams (student services, marketing, operations).

    • KPI: Achieve 90%+ internal satisfaction rating from staff feedback on finance responsiveness.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: 600,000 – 800,000 MMK per month (based on experience and performance).

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

  • Flexibility required for month-end closings, tax deadlines, or urgent financial tasks.

Job Requirements

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 3–5 years of working experience in finance or accounting roles.

  • Strong knowledge of cash-basis accounting and financial reporting.

  • In-depth understanding of Myanmar tax laws and compliance.

  • Experience in budget planning, cash flow management, and financial analysis.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs) and accounting software.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for collections and partner coordination.

  • High attention to detail, with strong integrity and professionalism.
