Your Mission

The Legal Specialist provides legal, regulatory, and compliance support to the Company, including legal document review and preparation, regulatory matters, and practical legal guidance to internal teams. The role works closely with the Financial Regulatory Department (FRD), Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM), relevant government authorities, internal departments, and external legal counsel on legal and regulatory matters. The position also handles contract and corporate documentation, maintains legal records, supports regulatory and compliance requirements, and assists in identifying and managing legal and regulatory risks.

Once You’re Here, You Will Be:

Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Legal Compliance

  • Provide legal and regulatory support to internal departments on business and operational matters.
  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant government and regulatory authorities, including FRD and CBM.
  • Prepare regulatory submissions, letters, reports, applications, and supporting legal documents.
  • Draft, review, and manage contracts, agreements, and other legal documents through the Contract Management System.
  • Monitor changes in applicable laws, regulations, directives, notifications, and regulatory requirements and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Support regulatory inspections, compliance matters, and related requests from regulatory authorities.
  • Assist in identifying, legal and regulatory risks arising from the Company's business activities.
  • Support disputes, litigation, and coordination with external legal counsel.
  • Support corporate matters, archiving of Board resolutions, powers of attorney, and other corporate documents.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of contracts, legal documents, regulatory approvals, and other legal matters.

General Legal Support 

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on relevant laws, regulations, directives, and business matters.
  • Identify legal and regulatory risks and report significant issues or gaps to the HoD and Manager.
  • Proactively report relevant legal, regulatory, and including the daily operational matters to the HoD and Manager.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls from a legal and regulatory perspective.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and follow up on identified gaps or issues.
  • Provide legal translation and interpretation between Myanmar and English, particularly for legal, regulatory, contractual, and corporate documents.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive legal, regulatory, corporate, employee, client, and business information.
  • Maintain professional relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators, government authorities, external counsel, and other relevant parties.
  • Perform other legal, regulatory, corporate, and compliance-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Must-Haves:

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) or equivalent qualification; a Master's degree or relevant professional legal qualification is an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in an in-house legal function, financial institution, microfinance institution, or law firm.
  • Experience in financial services, banking, microfinance, corporate, regulatory, contractual, or commercial legal matters is strongly preferred.
  • Experience dealing with government authorities or financial regulators in Myanmar is an advantage.
