Thalun International School is seeking a confident, experienced Financial Professional to lead the finance, accounting and related operations. The successful candidate will be a key member of the small Senior Management Team reporting to the School Director and the Board of Directors.

 

***Duties & Responsibilities****

  • Ensure timely delivery of weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reporting i.e. P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement, highlighting trends and causes of unexpected variances for discussion with the Management team, other supervisors and the Board.

  • Deliver analytical reviews and reports of monthly/quarterly/yearly financial results (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement), highlighting trends and causes of unexpected variances for discussion with the Management team, other supervisors and the Board.

  • Deliver analytical reviews of current and past trends of Key Financial and Operational KPIs (e.g. Revenues, Margins, etc) for discussion with the Management team, other supervisors and the Board.

  • Deliver financial analysis on challenges and opportunities facing the business and provide monthly reviews of allocated spending against budget. 

  • Manage the roll-out and review of the budget and ongoing review and tracking of forecasts/budgets and costs.

  • Manage and improve finance department systems and processes in order to streamline business operations, meet regulatory standards and build internal/external goodwill with other teams and stakeholders.

  • Ensure that an effective risk management system is in place and take preventive action through regular audits of operations.

  • Manage and improve internal cash requests and internal control processes.

  • Manage and improve weekly and monthly physical cash counts, bank/ card reconciliations and payrolls.

  • Manage and improve monthly revenue and produce Commercial Tax reports, liaising with the tax authorities for monthly CT payments.

  • Manage and improve overseas payment transfers and withholding tax payments where appropriate.

  • Develop, implement and uphold Standard Operating Procedures and processes for the finance team.

  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory audits, annual/quarterly tax filings with the tax authorities.

  • Liaise with group auditor for group auditing report purposes.

  • Develop and compile budgets and forecasts so that the school director and ExCo are given timely and accurate advice on all financial and related business matters.

  • Provide strategic leadership in financial management to ensure the long term sustainability of the school.

  • Be responsible for developing the financial reports, monitoring its performance, ensuring alignment to staffing and finance plans and presenting regular reports to the ExCo.

  • Take a leading role in the securing of funds for the school to achieve its goals and objectives. 

  • Further develop depreciation and monitoring of the asset management programme to enable a funded cycle of replacement for major physical assets.

  • Ensure all financial arrangements are in keeping with the school’s status.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ management-level experience in financial accounting or related areas; experience with an international school or in an educational business is an advantage

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics, or Business Administration and other related fields, preferably CPA completed /ACCA level 3, (minimum level 2 plus half the papers for level 3)

  • Strong finance, tax & audit knowledge 

  • Proficient written and spoken English and Burmese with excellent communications skills 

  • A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles, Myanmar accounting & auditing standards, and Myanmar tax law

  • Able to work under pressure with tight deadlines for the management and financial reports

  • Able to lead and manage the inhouse finance team

  • Minimum two referrals
