Types of jobs in jewellery and gems in Myanmar encompass many processes: from the sourcing of materials to the distribution and design followed by the export or sale. Myanmar is famous for its rubies but also produces amethyst, moonstone, and jade, amongst others. Jobs of jewellery design and jewellery and gem sales can be highly rewarding. People normally buy jewellery for special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, or a memento of their trip to Myanmar. Jewellery design jobs involve creating earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings (amongst others) for a variety of budgets. A jewellery designers job is to create pieces which sit well and flatter the person wearing them. There are different processes used to bring these designs to life which are dependant on the on the materials and/ or gems used. Jewellery sale jobs may be related to direct selling in urban centres such as Yangon in either a market or a shop, or they may be in other destinations throughout the land. It is important for a person in jobs that involve jewellery selling to be able to talk to their customers about their product. There are also jobs in translating in the jewellery industry.
Myanmar is somewhat well known for its natural resources, one of those being gems. To obtain a job in the jewellery industry in Myanmar whether it be design, sales or marketing requires product knowledge as well as an understanding of consumer needs. Purchasing jewellery can be a very personal experience: tastes and budget vary from individual to individual. To work as a jewellery designer the most important things are creativity and practice of the craft. also imperative is the technical skills and attention to detail. The objective is to make a functional, aesthetically pleasing piece which will stand the test of time. To work in a jewellery stand or stall, qualifications are not always necessary, but a command of the English language, a knowledge of what you are selling are very important. In many cases a jewellery designer will also be selling their designs, which is ideal for the customer. It is also very helpful is the person selling the jewellery is well presented.
