The Strategic Rice Buyer is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement of various rice grades. This role involves identifying reliable suppliers, negotiating high-value contracts, and navigating the complexities of international logistics and customs. You will ensure that supply chains remain resilient against climate and geopolitical shifts while maintaining strict cost-efficiency. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management 

• Vetting & Auditing: Identify and onboard rice millers and exporters globally (e.g., Thailand, Vietnam, India, Pakistan). 
• Relationship Management: Maintain long-term partnerships with suppliers to ensure priority during supply shortages. 
• Diversification: Develop a multi-origin sourcing strategy to mitigate risks associated with export bans or crop failures. 

2. Market Analysis & Price Negotiation 

• Market Intelligence: Monitor global rice indices and commodity exchange trends to time purchases effectively. 
• Cost Optimization: Negotiate pricing based on Incoterms (FOB, CIF, CFR) to balance landed costs with risk exposure. 
• Hedging: Collaborate with the finance team to manage currency fluctuations and price volatility. 

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance 

• Technical Specs: Ensure all shipments meet specific moisture levels, broken grain percentages, and purity standards. 
• Regulatory Adherence: Oversight of phytosanitary certificates, Fumigation Certificates, and Certificate of Origin requirements for specific regions. 
• Inspection Coordination: Manage third-party inspection agencies (like SGS or Bureau Veritas) at the port of loading. 

4. Logistics & Documentation 

• Shipping Oversight: Manage the flow of Bills of Lading, Packing Lists, and Commercial Invoices to prevent demurrage at ports. 
• Incoterm Fluency: Deep understanding of the transfer of risk and cost from seller to buyer. 

• Experience: 5+ years in agricultural commodity procurement, specifically within grains or FMCG. 
• Knowledge: Expertise in Incoterms 2020, international payment instruments (Letters of Credit, T/T), and shipping documentation. 
• Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret crop reports, weather patterns, and trade policy shifts (e.g., changes in export duties). 
• Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to draft professional formal correspondence for international stakeholders. 
• Experience with triangular trade (Merchanting Trade) and managing cross-border transactions. 
• Familiarity with regional export management laws and industrial licensing. 
• Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or Agribusiness.
