Job Description

A Great Opportunity for ...

1. Job Objective:

The Trade & Risk Manager is responsible for leading the strategic oversight of the group's foreign exchange (FX) exposures, trade finance facilities, and enterprise-wide risk mitigation frameworks across all project-based Strategic Business Units (SBUs) (Trading, Construction, Solar, Mining). The primary objective is to bridge operational trade transactions and corporate risk governance by securing funding, negotiating banking terms, minimizing risks, and protecting corporate assets to support sustainable business growth within Myanmar's dynamic economic environment.

2. Key Accountability

  • FX Exposure Optimization & Hedging Execution: Drive tactical hedging and netting strategies to safeguard inventory (FX assets) and trade payables (FX liabilities) against currency volatility.
  • Trade Finance Leadership & Project Support: Supervise and secure banking instruments (LCs, BLs, TRs) to ensure uninterrupted funding and liquidity availability for government tenders and SBU operations.
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): Institutionalize risk monitoring by embedding comprehensive PESTEL and operational risk analysis into group-wide decision-making, projects, and investments.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Bank Relations: Maximize financial facility terms through aggressive negotiations while ensuring absolute adherence to Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) regulations and company treasury policies.

3. Roles & Responsibilities

A. FX Risk Management & Strategic Netting

  • Monitor group-wide foreign exchange exposures stemming from imports, exports, and project financing activities.
  • Formulate and implement corporate netting strategies based on macroeconomic outlooks:
    • If USD/foreign currency is expected to strengthen -------> maintain Net Open Position (NOP) as an asset (inventory, receivables).
    • If USD/foreign currency is expected to weaken -----------> maintain NOP as a liability (trade payables, borrowings).
  • Prepare and present detailed FX forecasts, sensitivity analyses, and risk mitigation workbooks for management.

B. Trade Finance Operations & Banking Relations

  • Oversee and execute Letters of Credit (LCs), bank guarantees, trust receipts, and other specialized trade finance instruments.
  • Coordinate directly with financial institutions to secure project-tailored financing/solutions for government tenders, construction, mining, and solar projects.
  • Maintain and optimize strategic relationships with local commercial banks (e.g., KBZ, AYA, CB Bank) and international correspondent banks.
  • Negotiate highly favorable commercial terms regarding FX rates, LC conditions, and overall trade financing facilities.
  • Guarantee timely settlement of import/export documentations and clear resolution of operational bottlenecks.

C. Enterprise Risk Management (PESTEL Framework)

  • Political Risks: Monitor government policies, tender regulations, and licensing requirements; systematically assess contract delay or cancellation risks in government contracts.
  • Economic Risks: Track inflation, lending interest rates, and money market movements in Myanmar to guide financial preservation.
  • Social Risks: Evaluate workforce availability, labor disputes, and community relations across mining and construction sites; monitor reputational risks linked to environmental and social impact.
  • Technological Risks: Assess cybersecurity threats, system obsolescence, and infrastructure gaps/outdated equipment, recommending automation and digital risk monitoring tools.
  • Environmental Risks: Monitor climate-related conditions (floods, droughts, unpredictable weather) affecting project execution; ensure compliance with environmental regulations for mining and solar sites.
  • Legal & Regulatory Risks: Ensure absolute compliance with Central Bank of Myanmar rules, company treasury policies, tender laws, and labor regulations; monitor risks of litigation, fines, or sanctions.

D. Investment Overview & Treasury Reporting

  • Supervise and guide the Investment Analyst in reviewing project feasibility studies and financial models for new investments.
  • Prepare and provide integrated Trade, FX, and Risk Reports with deep data analysis for the Group Treasurer, CFO, and Board Risk Committee.
  • Maintain pristine, transparent, and audit-ready documentation logs to satisfy internal controls, external statutory auditors, and regulatory bodies like CBM.
  • Develop and deliver risk awareness training and compliance guidelines for operational staff and project teams across all SBUs.

E. Decision-Making Authority

  • Transactional Approvals: Absolute authority to approve standard FX transactions, trade finance facility applications, and operational risk mitigation plans within delegated limits.
  • Tactical Positioning: Independent authority to decide on active netting positions (Asset vs. Liability configurations) based on FX outlook within the approved policy framework.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Focused on providing definitive expert recommendations to the CFO, Group Treasurer, and BOD concerning large-scale FX hedging, major project risk appetites, and investment compliance frameworks.
