Background

The Delegation of German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) is the central actor for German foreign trade promotion on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany in Myanmar and is part of the German chamber network abroad with 104 offices in 92 countries. AHK represents the interests of German enterprises and supports bilateral trade relations and liaises with local institutions, agencies, and associations. Our office in Myanmar provides a wide range of services to support trade and business activities and advice on market entry. The Delegation cooperates closely with the German Myanmar Business Chamber.
 

Position

The position offers an excellent opportunity to work with multinational and local companies and institutions in a very dynamic business environment. The successful candidate will be interested in supporting trade and investment in Myanmar by providing consultation on market development, business and trade policies, and government regulations. The candidate will be an effective researcher and writer and possess strong communication and organizational skills. The position requires a candidate with excellent English skills as well as the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with a strong sense of ownership and customer orientation. We are seeking a senior consultant to join our team in Yangon on a full-time basis.

Core Responsibilities

• Consult German companies regarding trade and investment, business climate and market entry strategies and handle general business advisory inquiries
•  Promote trade between Germany and Myanmar and support German and Myanmar companies doing bilateral busines
• Carry out desk and primary research on a wide variety of economic, trade and political issues and publish business updates
• Develop analytical and monitoring reports, investment guides and sector reports
• Liaise and develop strong relationships with stakeholders and private enterprises of relevant sectors and industries
• Prepare trade missions, program development and coordinate B2B meetings

Qualification, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as economics, business administration, trade and investment, international relations, commercial law, or similar
• 5 – 8 years of relevant work experience, preferable at a chamber of commerce, business support organisation, consulting or law firm, embassy, business think tank/NGO
• Knowledge and interest in policy and economic issues in Myanmar and Southeast Asia
• Extensive network of relevant organisations and institutions/stakeholders
• Excellent proficiency in English, preferably proven via an internationally recognized certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT)
• Knowledge of German: not compulsory, but a strong asset
• Ability to work independently under pressure and ability to multi-task
• Proven management experience
• Strong abilities in interpersonal communication and networking
