Job Description

A Good Opportunity for ..

  • To be responsible for the confidential counselling services to students and families  as needed.

  • To be responsible for providing counselling and support for groups of students as needed.

  • To be responsible for maintaining appropriate and confidential records.

  • To provide regular information such as numbers, age range and types of problems and progress to the senior leadership teams and the Board of Directors on request.

  • To continually review and evaluate the counselling  service provision. 

  • To be responsible for referring students to other support services and mental health professionals as needed.

  • To coordinate with the heads of pastoral care for primary and secondary for referrals to the counselling service.

  • To liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on a regular basis.

  • To liaise with teachers regarding individual students who have been referred for counselling as necessary.

  • To coordinate with all members of the student  services teams  at regular meetings where students of concern are discussed and actions decided.

  • To arrange and deliver relevant training for staff as and when needs are identified.

  • To help plan and run wellbeing workshops for parents, teachers and students.

  • To support the pastoral team with assemblies and lessons as part of the wellbeing provision

  • To have a thorough knowledge of the mental health provision locally, nationally and internationally

  • Take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research

  • and developments which may lead to improvements in the counselling service provided

Job Requirements

  • Therapeutic training or qualification in working with children and young people.

  • Minimum of 500 hours of clinical counselling experience including working with families, children and young people.

  • Experience of teaching or counselling at a private or an international school in Myanmar (desired)

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field for example psychology, nursing, teaching, social sciences. Medicine. Anthropology etc. 

  • Diploma or master’s level in Counselling or Psychotherapy (desired)

  • Knowledge and understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people

  • An awareness of range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds

  • Knowledge of local, national and international mental health provision

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Myanmar and English language

  • Ability to work independently

  • Positive communication and listening skills

  • Patience, tolerance and sensitivity

  • A mature and non-judgemental outlook

  • Enthusiasm
