Engineering and machinery jobs in Myanmar in essence involve the design, development, manufacturing, sales, transport and maintenance of a wide array of machinery, such as machines used in industrial environments. The kinds of jobs that one may find in engineering and machinery in Myanmar include mechanical engineers, service engineers, machine operators, sales managers and accountants ( and that is just to begin). Machinery in an industrial setting is vital to increased efficiency and profitability. Firstly a machine is designed by a mechanical engineer using various methods (such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and then machine tested and developed. From there it may be manufactured in a factory, either locally or internationally. There are various steps in the manufacturing process including quality control. Following this, this the machinery needs to be transported from the factory to the client, for which logistics personnel and drivers are required (and of course there are sales executives involved in this process). Once the machinery has reached its destination it needs to be installed, and for this service engineers are required. Service engineers play a vital role as they must educate and train manual workers on how to operate the machinery in a safe and efficient manner, as well as maintaining the machinery and updating it through scheduled visits. Engineering and machinery is a somewhat specialised industry as different companies have different requirements and machines must be adjusted accordingly, as well as maintained as they are an essential part in a company’s productivity.
Until very recently, Myanmar has had a very manual labour intensive workforce. Lately, Myanmar has made some positive economic reforms which have paved the way for foreign investment, which in turn has brought the introduction of some modern technologies, including machinery. Engineering and machinery may be considered vital for maximised efficiency and output, especially in sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing. There are an abundance of jobs available in engineering and machinery, which require varying degrees of skills and education. To become an engineer in almost all capacities requires a college education and a traineeship. Whether it be a career in service engineering, mechanical engineering or civil engineering it is helpful to have an aptitude for maths, physics, problem solving, and of course computer skills. With so many projects planned in Myanmar the opportunities are vast, and career progress highly viable, especially regarding the size of various projects. The role of a service engineer also develops soft skills, such as customer service and sales which can pave the way for a career as a sales engineer or lead to a management position. To work in a career operating machinery or transporting the machinery, a college education is not necessarily required. Valuable attributes for these roles are physical strength, awareness of safety and an attention to detail. Engineering and machinery jobs in Myanmar are not just located in urban centres such as Yangon and Mandalay, but throughout the land, including ports and rural areas.
