Overview

Phandeeyar (“creation place”) is an ICT hub that is accelerating the development of Myanmar’s technology and innovation ecosystem. We have an awesome 6000 square foot space in the heart of downtown Yangon. We run a coworking area, classrooms, an event space and a busy program of activities. Last year we held over 100 events, including three hackathons and a startup competition. In 2016 we’ve launched a number of new initiatives including an Accelerator for tech startups, a Makerspace for hardware hacking, an open data platform and a new training program for technology entrepreneurs.

The Role

Phandeeyar is looking for an energetic professional to serve as its Entrepreneurship Program Associate. The Associate will work closely with the Entrepreneurship Program Manager and Accelerator Director and help execute Phandeeyar’s entrepreneurship programs. This includes a flagship program to train technology entrepreneurs, as well as Phandeeyar Accelerator and our civic tech and social innovation lab. Your job will be to help make Phandeeyar a key driver of a thriving tech startup ecosystem in Myanmar.

Key responsibilities include:

Helping the Entrepreneurship team to develop and run all of Phandeeyar’s entrepreneurship programs
Helping to support the running of Phandeeyar’s Accelerator
Supporting the development and running of a tech entrepreneurship training program to feed into the Accelerator.
Helping to develop programs to leverage Phandeeyar’s entrepreneurial resources to support the development of social and civic entrepreneurship.
Helping to develop and manage other programs and initiatives to help develop tech entrepreneurship in Myanmar.
Supporting other key Phandeeyar initiatives as required
Essential Requirements

Passionate about entrepreneurship – You must have a demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship. Ideally, you will have started something yourself or will have helped to create something new.

Excited about tech businesses – You don’t need to be a tech guru, but you at least need to be excited about tech businesses. Bonus points if you already have a good knowledge and understanding of tech businesses and especially start-ups.

Awesome organizational skills – You are great at getting things done. You’re a self-starter who takes the initiative and can mobilize resources and solve problems. You can juggle multiple projects and you have good attention to detail.

Highly resourceful & adaptable – You are great at figuring things out. When we don’t have the answer, you’ll be good at figuring it out for yourself. You’re also highly flexible and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Good communicator – You need to be fluent in Myanmar. You should also have decent English – it doesn’t need to be perfect, but you do need to be able to work in English.

Passion – Phandeeyar is trying to accelerate change and development in Myanmar. It works not just with the tech and entrepreneurship community, but with change agents such as civil society groups, social enterprises, and independent media. You must be excited to also use your skills to help those working on socially driven initiatives.

The Details

Location: This role is based in Yangon. It may involve some travel around the country.
Hours: Phandeeyar is itself a start-up. Many of its activities happen outside standard office hours (9am-5pm). You will need to work some evenings and weekends, however, there is a “time off in lieu” policy.
Remuneration: Will be based on experience and qualifications and will be competitive for the sector.
