OVERVIEW

Yangon American International School is an innovative leading-edge independent college-preparatory school offering an American-based education.  This coeducational institution features the Common Core State Standards Curriculum to provide a total learning experience designed to promote the maximum potential of students to prepare them for the university and beyond. More importantly, a rigorous academically-centered education will better prepare students for the future. Yangon American was founded in 2018 with the mission of offering an academically rigorous program to children of all nationalities in Yangon to prepare them for the university.

We prefer teachers with IB MYP experience; however, we will train the right candidate. We would also prefer Common Core State Standards experience. While we prefer teachers with international teaching experience, we will consider exceptional teachers who are interested in making the transition to international education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and Preparation:

• Demonstrate knowledge of content and standards-based instruction including the Common Core State Standards. IB MYP experience preferred.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the Common Core State Standards and how it relates to instruction.
• Demonstrate knowledge of students, child development, and the learning process.
• Demonstrate knowledge of classroom resources to extend the content and resources to support students.
• Design coherent lessons and unit plans, in conjunction with your teaching team, that are structured for all learners.
• Design formative and summative assessments that align with instructional goals and the outcomes of your unit plan.

Classroom Environment:

• Create an environment of respect and rapport between teacher and student and between student and student.
• Establish a culture and expectation for learning and achievement.
• Manage classroom procedures and groups to optimize time on task.
• Set clear expectations and manage student behavior with respect and understanding.
• Use the classroom space effectively to create a safe and accessible learning environment.

Instruction:

• Communicate clear expectations for learning and skill development to students and parents.
• Use high quality questions to provoke and guide student critical thinking and problem solving.
• Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for providing feedback and setting challenging learning goals for a variety of learners.
• Demonstrate flexibility in response to student learning needs, and differentiate and adjust lessons to maximize student learning.

Professional Responsibilities:

• Plan and develop lessons on art and art history in accordance with students' learning objectives.
• Prepare and arrange art materials and art equipment in the classroom for students to use.
• Deliver lectures to students on art, art techniques, art history and aesthetics.
• Provide drawing and painting demonstrations to students to teach them art techniques.
• Instruct students in working in different drawing, painting, and colouring techniques.
• Provide instruction in the use of pencils, pens, watercolours, acrylic colours, charcoal, brushes, oil colours and other art materials.
• Assign art projects to students, grade the finished art projects, conduct art exams and maintain records of the students' progress.
• Support the school administration in developing art programmers.
• Attend faculty meetings and participate in parent-teacher discussions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor/ Master’s degree in Fine Arts or a related field.
• At least 2 years’ experience as an Art Teacher.
• Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques.
