Job Description

An Exciting Opportunity for ...

  • To lead the strategic direction and development of IGCSE all subjects.
  • To identify and promote best practice within the subject departments and coordinate cross-curricular initiatives such as projects.
  • To make effective use of data to help in monitoring standards of learning and teaching and to identify underperformance of teacher and students.
  • To organize the setting of students studying IGCSE and to monitor their performance across all subjects.
  • To take responsibility for checking examination entries for IGCSE.
  • To observe lessons on a regular basis to evaluate the quality of teaching and to identify and promote good practice.
  • To identify and promote opportunities for students to develop their learning quality and to become increasingly independent learners.
  • To liaise with pastoral heads, tutors and parents about student performance and matters of discipline.
  • To work closely with the Science subject leaders, to ensure the smooth running of the Science department.
  • To line-manage IGCSE all subject leaders and make recommendations about their professional development.
  • To establish positive working relationships and clear expectations with the team, working closely with other support department to promote efficient and robust support across the departments, whilst also aligning teacher’s timetables and any specific responsibilities according to particular specialisms and personal development plans.
  • To participate fully in appraisal/performance development procedures of teaching and staff in the department, assisting them in personal target setting and in developing to the full their potential.
  • To take an active part in arrangements for recruiting, inducting and supporting new staff and in covering for absent staff.
  • To hold termly department meetings, ensuring that minutes are kept.
  • To liaise with Senior Management in all matters relating to teaching and learning and about developments within the department.
  •  To promote a positive and purposeful culture and a thriving environment within the department.
  • To encourage all teaching and technician staff to further the aims of the department as much as they are able.

Job Requirements

  • At least 10 years’ successful teaching and leadership experience in IGCSE Leadership experience
  • Master Degree/PHD in any major with diploma/degree in teaching
  • Experience of working with and involving school Governors/Board of Directors
  • Experience of a range of head positions in at least two schools
  • Experience of working with and developing links with the community and wider region
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of learning and teaching
  • Understanding of the principles of Assessment for Learning
  • Knowledge and understanding of data analysis and the ability to use data to set targets for improvement
  • Confident in school self-evaluation
  • Up to date knowledge & understanding of the current national education agenda
  • Understanding of how children & adults learn and effectively apply their learning
  • Confident use of a range of ICT skills
