Planning and Preparation:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and standards-based instruction including the Common Core State Standards. IB MYP experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Common Core State Standards and how it relates to instruction.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of students, child development, and the learning process.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of classroom resources to extend the content and resources to support students.
  • Design coherent lessons and unit plans, in conjunction with your teaching team, that are structured for all learners.
  • Design formative and summative assessments that align with instructional goals and the outcomes of your unit plan.

Classroom Environment:

  • Create an environment of respect and rapport between teacher and student and between student and student.
  • Establish a culture and expectation for learning and achievement.
  • Manage classroom procedures and groups to optimize time on task.
  • Set clear expectations and manage student behavior with respect and understanding.
  • Use the classroom space effectively to create a safe and accessible learning environment.

Instruction:

  • Communicate clear expectations for learning and skill development to students and parents.
  • Use high quality questions to provoke and guide student critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for providing feedback and setting challenging learning goals for a variety of learners.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in response to student learning needs, and differentiate and adjust lessons to maximize student learning.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare lessons in relation to individual students needs
  • Acquire appropriate teaching material and resources
  • Teach music theory, skills and practical techniques to students
  • Motivate and encourage the progress of the students
  • Liaise with staff and parents
  • Assess students’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree and a valid teaching certificate in the subject/discipline for which the teaching candidate is highly desirable.
  • A candidate without a master’s degree must possess a bachelor’s degree, a valid teaching certificate (in the subject/discipline for which the candidate is being considered), and extensive teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the core subject area for which the candidate is hired to teach.
