As a Risk and Compliance Manager at Dai-ichi Insurance Myanmar Ltd., you will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and managing risks associated with our life insurance business as well as handling investigation on  compliance incident and others sale related malpractices.

Risk and Compliance Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing compliance and risk management policies and procedures to minimize potential financial losses and protect our customers, employees, and stakeholders. Additionally, monitors all sale related activities and internal operations to meet regulatory requirement and avoid significant financial loss or reputational damage, undermining of customer confidence.

This position requires strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills to ensure the company’s continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities,

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective risk management framework for the life insurance business, ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry best practices.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor risks, including underwriting, operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risks.
  • Implement risk management tools and techniques, such as risk assessments, stress testing, and scenario analysis, to evaluate the potential impact of identified risks on the company’s financial performance and solvency.
  • Establish risk appetite and tolerance levels, ensuring they are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives and risk capacity.
  • Reviewing, analyzing physical and electronic evidence on compliance incident cases, conducting interviews to relevant stakeholders, monitoring with a view to establishing whether the internal and external standards, policies and regulations are adhered to, and report on the findings, including any sale and non-sale non-compliant practices.
  • Analyse compliance incidents, figure out root cause of incident and recommend solution to prevent recurrence.   
  • Proactively initiating and recommending process improvement during daily tasks in order to ensure prompt detection, thorough investigation, and fair reporting of non-compliant activities and mal-practices, including the recommendation of process re-design to more effectively deter, prevent, detect and correct such activities.
  • Collaborate with key departments, including distribution, underwriting, actuarial, finance, and operations, to ensure risks are effectively managed and mitigated, compliance practice up-to-date, and sharing information as appropriate as part of the compliance requirements.
  • Liaising with law enforcement agencies and external parties, when necessary.
  • Prepare and filing internal and regulatory reports relating with highlighting key risk exposures, emerging risks, risk mitigation actions, compliance incidents.
  • Develop and deliver risk management and compliance training and awareness programs for employees to promote compliance and a risk-conscious culture within the company.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends to ensure the company’s risk management practices remain up-to-date and effective.
  • Other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Department from time to time.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Law, Risk Management, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance and risk management, preferably within the financial industry.
  • Preferably with an in-depth understanding of insurance products, operations, and regulations in Myanmar.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risk scenarios.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with various stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Strong data analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data visualization), PowerPoint (data-driven presentations), and Word (reporting and documentation).
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Fluency in Burmese and English, both written and spoken.
