ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Team Lead - Underwriting, is responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end lending support process for consumer loan cases (Hire Purchase/ Home Loan), including SME-linked transactions. The role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in credit application (CA) preparation, documentation review, coordination with cross-functional teams, and timely submission to relevant authorities for approval. The position acts as a bridge between branches and central support functions, ensuring smooth loan processing, collateral clearance, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction through timely disbursement.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Process Management & Oversight

  • Lead and supervise the credit underwriting team in preparing accurate and complete CA papers.
  • Ensure all required documents are checked, verified, and filed in the designated system/path.
  • Coordinate collateral valuation and legal clearance processes before submission to CRD.
  • Monitor timelines to avoid processing delays and ensure smooth handovers between teams.

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison between Branch, Sales Team, Credit Risk Department, Collateral Valuation Team, and Legal teams for consumer loan cases.
  • Communicate case status updates, issues, or escalations promptly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper sharing of approval notifications and documentation with Sales and Branch teams.

Quality & Compliance Control

  • Maintain high standards of documentation accuracy to minimize errors and rework.
  • Ensure compliance with bank policies, legal, and regulatory requirements in loan processing.
  • Supervise proper record-keeping of approval notifications, disbursement documents, and refinancing cases.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Assign responsibilities, provide guidance, and review work of team members.
  • Build team capability through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of consumer loan products (hire purchase, home loan)
  • In-depth understanding of credit underwriting principles, risk assessment
  • Knowledge of banking regulations, compliance requirements, and internal credit policies
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, income documents, and credit bureau reports (MMCB reports)
  • Strong decision-making and judgment skills with risk awareness
  • People management and coaching skills to guide and develop underwriting staff
  • Ability to manage TAT, workload allocation, and quality control
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills (branches, sales, risk, compliance)
  • Proficiency in MIS reporting, data analysis, and process improvement
  • High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills

Education & Special Training

Essential 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or Business Administration or
  • Professional certifications or training in: Credit risk management/ consumer lending underwriting/ Internal Credit Policy & Approval Framework
  • Leadership or people-management training is an added advantage

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or Business Administration or

Experience

Essential  

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in consumer loan underwriting or credit risk
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or team lead role
  • Hands-on experience in: Loan assessment and approval process, working closely with branches and business teams, credit team
  • Loan assessment and approval processes
  • Handling complex or high-risk cases
  • Working closely with branches and business teams
  • Portfolio quality monitoring and risk mitigation
  • Experience in process improvement or SOP development is preferable

Desirable

  • Minimum 5–6 years of experience in consumer loan underwriting or credit risk
  • At least 2-3 years in a supervisory or team lead role
  • Hands-on experience in: Loan assessment and approval process, working closely with branches and business teams, credit team

Languages

  • Proficiency in English and Myanmar language (written and spoken)
