Jobs in manufacturing in Myanmar are those relevant to any part of the process of taking raw materials and using machinery to turn them into finished goods ready for consumers. But that is in its simplest form. Manufacturing is used over many industries such as clothing and textiles, food production, the automative industry, electronics, and the list goes on. this jobs in manufacturing may vary somewhat depending on which industry, but there are certain functions, processes and jobs in manufacturing which remain consistent. Jobs in manufacturing not only include those of assemblers and machine operators, but to keep the factory running there needs to be engineers (such as mechanic engineers), electrical engineers, maintenance workers, those involved in quality assurance, procurement and sourcing professionals (who source the materials and negotiate the terms and conditions of the contracts with their suppliers). In manufacturing all parties must work together as they must maintain flow and efficiency in order to meet the output targets. Following on from this, manufacturers also need people in the marketing function, human resource professionals, as well as accountants and stock controllers. As manufacturing is mass production factories can be quite large with an abundance of employees which means there is also a need for managers and shift supervisors who work with HR to train, monitor and assess the performance of employees.
In Myanmar lately there have been a string of economic reforms which have the purpose of enhancing growth and employment, and the manufacturing industry is at the forefront. There is a prominent cases which illustrates this. The first is the Kyaukpyu Port project in the Rakine state. A port is proposed which will effectively facilitate an overland link between Myanmar and Southern China cutting 5000km of travelling time off as ships will no longer need to go through the Strait of Malacca. As there have also been reforms which allow foreign investment, many companies are bound to take advantage of this and set up manufacturing plants in order to increase efficiency in regards to logistics and distribution. Many international companies have already set up manufacturing plants in Myanmar, such as beer companies, clothing companies and companies in the automative industry. To get a “factory floor” job in manufacturing in Myanmar such as in production (starting and stopping machinery) or in assembling (putting together the various components of the parts9 does not necessarily require a formal education. What is more imperative is a willingness to learn as well as some street smart and self awareness for ones safety. From there an employee may go on to take an administrative role in the plant or take on a managerial function such as shift supervisor or safety officer. Other jobs in manufacturing which are obtainable without a tertiary education are those in an entry level administrative function, quality assurance and sourcing and procurement. However saying that, once one moves on to a managerial function further education is beneficial. To acquire an engineering job in manufacturing, a degree is normally required. The same should be said for those working in human resources and accounting.
