At the core the job of medical and hospital professionals in Myanmar is to provide various levels of healthcare to individuals, families and communities. Jobs in medical and hospital are varied depending on the location type of facility, but examples are nurses, general practitioners, specialist doctors such as allergists, cardiologists, surgeons, paediatricians, urologists, and oncologists. In all cases it is the job of the medical or hospital professional to examine, diagnose and treat the patients. Not all medical jobs are located in a hospital. Specialists may have a clinic or a surgery. Some medical jobs such as dentist, midwife, chiropractor or massage therapist may be through a case of referral, and in some cases part of the treatment process. It is the job of the medical and hospital professionals to work together in order to treat patients. For example, if an individual is in an accident and breaks their leg, they will most likely go to a hospital to get it set in a cast. Then, when the cast comes off they will need further therapy to finish the healing process, in which case a doctor may refer them to a rehabilitation specialist. Jobs in the medical and hospital industry in Myanmar can be quite stressful (like in the rest of the world) and this any professionals working in the industry need to be well trained, have excellent communication skills, be not only good under pressure but also able to cope with stress. On a day to day basis, medical and hospital professionals never know what is going to happen, and the hours can be long. But jobs in medical and hospital tend to be well paid, and well respected. As well as rewarding: especially when a baby is born or a life is saved.
Like in other industries in Myanmar, the medical and hospital industry is going through some improved regulatory standards which paves the way for foreign investment in not only hospitals but equipment, drugs and medicine. This opens up a world of opportunity for medical and hospital professionals, not just in urban centres such as Yangon and Mandalay, but throughout the country, including rural areas. Whether it be in clinics, or hospitals, there are opportunities not just for specialist doctors and qualified nurses, but for administrative professionals to oversee various functions imperative to the hospital running. To get a job as a doctor, whether it be as a GP or a specialist such as allergist, cardiologist or a surgeon a degree is always required as well as a completed internship: it takes many years of study to enter this prestigious profession. This is also for other medical jobs not necessarily located in a hospital such as chiropractors, massage therapists and dentists. To be a nurse or a midwife also requires formal education. There are roles also available in medical and hospital in Myanmar in bother the public sector and private sector. Jobs in accounting such as internal auditing, jobs in the administrative function such as receptionists, and jobs in IT as the systems always need to be up to date and data entered correctly.
