A survey by leading online jobsite portal JobNet.com.mm has revealed that on average international companies operating in Myanmar are offering salaries up to 60% higher than local companies for some positions.
A sample group of 300 human resource professionals, representing both international and local companies in Myanmar, were surveyed in December 2017. People working in international companies in positions of director level and above, were paid on average 50 Lakhs (1Lakh is equal to 77 dollars) per month, whereby the same positions in local companies, commanded on average 24 Lakhs per month. Managerial positions in international companies paid on average 20 Lakhs while local companies paid 12 Lakhs for the same roles. And entry level positions for international companies came in at an average of 5 Lakhs per month, while local firms were paying entry-level employees an average of 3 Lakhs per month.
The hospitality, food and beverage sector revealed the biggest disparity, with an average of 106% higher salaries paid by the international operators surveyed, than their Myanmar counterparts. This was followed by the IT sector, where international companies were paying on average 81% more than local companies. The engineering and construction sector came in with a 65% salary gap, and sales and business development also revealed a 65% difference, while banking and finance had a 53% difference. The smallest gap was in the marketing and creative sectors, with on average international companies paying 52% more than local companies.
