A learning session had been conducted through the lead of British Chamber of Commerce who partnered with JobNet.com.mm, the number one leading recruitment online platform in Myanmar, to collaborate and share knowledge on “Trends in Hiring Through 2019.” The seminar was hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce on 23rd October and took place at the British Chamber office, located at Junction City Tower, and both members and non-members of the Chamber who are seeking to update their incoming talent pipeline by staying on the cutting edge of the industry trends in best practices for human capital management spent the morning learning about how to position their companies to thrive in the growing Myanmar market.
During the seminar led by Matt De Luca, Managing Director of JobNet.com.mm, initiative surveys results developed by JobNet based on the insights of CEOs and employee from different organizational sizes in Myanmar and the analysis of hiring trends were shared among HR leaders and event attendees, which they can utilize as a crucial source for their business decision making processes and long-term business growth. “With more companies from the UK as well as other parts of the world looking to invest in Myanmar, it is crucial to have up to the minute market data to help evaluate business conditions” said Matt De Luca.
Based on the survey results from October 2019, 72% of the CEOs in Myanmar polled had firmly declared the biggest challenge they are facing nowadays is not about growing capital or market growth rate but hiring and retaining good talent. In addition, JobNet also pointed out the real value that most of the employees are looking for when they are searching a job. While 78% of employers who participated the survey responded that high salary is what job seekers are going after, the real demands from the employee survey explicated that nearly 80% of over 2,000 respondents stated that career growth and opportunities for learning and development is what the jobseekers nowadays in Myanmar are looking for most in their next job.
At the same time, Mr. De Luca also touched upon the job availability for expats in Myanmar, top job functions which are widely demanded at the Myanmar employee market, and the roles that job seekers in Myanmar are most likely to apply for based on the reliable data which JobNet keeps tracking quarterly through the JobNet platform. One surprising stastic being shared during the seminar was that 85% of all the accounting applicants are female, based on the analysis of job function applications by gender. Additionally, the conversation among HR leaders reinforced the importance of adoption of a digitalization strategy for organizations due to the continued proliferation of technology as a streamlined, viable solution in the Myanmar market.
At the end of the seminar, the topic of the upcoming Myanmar Employer Awards came up, of which the British Chamber of Commerce is a supporting partner. A platform to recognize and encourage HR best practices; most if not everything that was discussed at the HR Seminar will be reflected in the winners of the Awards Gala Night on 7th December.
