Position Overview:
The Librarian plays a vital role in supporting teaching, learning, and literacy development across the school community. Responsible for managing the school library and information resources, the Librarian promotes a love of reading, research skills, and responsible information use among students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Working collaboratively with teachers and academic leaders, the Librarian supports curriculum delivery, inquiry-based learning, and digital literacy in line with international education standards. The role also involves maintaining an engaging, inclusive, and well-organized library environment that serves students, staff, and parents.
1. Library Operations & Circulation Management
- Manage day-to-day circulation activities, including issuing and returning library materials.
- Monitor overdue items, follow up on returns, and administer fines in accordance with library policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date borrowing, return, and inventory records.
2. Collection Development & Resource Management
- Plan, acquire, catalog, classify, and organize print and digital resources (books, journals, databases, and reference materials).
- Order, receive, and display new library resources to support curriculum and reading initiatives.
- Ensure collections are well-maintained, accessible, and aligned with academic and curriculum needs.
- Manage the library budget
3. Library Environment & Facility Management
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and quiet library environment conducive to learning and research.
- Ensure appropriate and responsible use of library spaces, furniture, and resources.
4. User Services & Information Literacy Support
- Respond professionally to inquiries, feedback, and complaints from students and staff.
- Provide guidance and assistance with research, locating resources, and using library databases and digital tools (in person, by phone, or via email).
- Support users in developing information literacy skills, including locating, evaluating, and effectively using information.
5. Policy Development & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and periodically review library policies and procedures to enhance library services.
- Promote adherence to library rules, policies, and ethical use of information resources.
6. Systems & Digital Resource Management
- Maintain and update library management systems, digital databases, websites, and online platforms.
- Support the integration of digital tools and technologies to improve library access and services.
7. Library Programs & Community Engagement
- Plan and deliver library programs and activities, such as reading initiatives, workshops, story times, and book clubs.
- Collaborate with educators and school departments to promote literacy and a reading culture within the school community.
8. Administrative & Professional Support
- Prepare reports, records, and documentation related to library operations as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.
