ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Platform Engineer role ensures stability, scalability, reliability, security, and compliance of critical platforms and systems. Depending on the level, responsibilities include supporting or leading efforts in maintaining Kubernetes/ microservices environments and core banking-related applications such as SWIFT, Card Management, Merchant Management, Loan Origination, and AML systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Focus: Own components or subsystems, improve automation, and contribute to platform engineering.

1. Reliability Engineering & Operations

• Ensure uptime, scalability, and resilience of Kubernetes clusters, cloud services, and core banking systems.
• Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for high-impact issues.
• Contribute to disaster recovery planning, capacity management, and performance tuning.

2. Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as a senior technical reference for SREs, supporting the Team Lead in setting standards.
• Collaborate with development and architecture teams on secure, complaint, and reliable system design.
• Provide mentorship and knowledge-sharing within the team on best practices in reliability, security, and compliance.

3. Automation, Observability & Security

• Build and maintain automation for deployments, scaling, recovery, and compliance enforcement.
• Enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting security and audit requirements in mind.
• Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps practices with embedded security controls.

4. Research & Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate tools, frameworks, and practices to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Lead small-scale POCs and pilot implementations to validate new approaches for improving reliability, security, and efficiency.
• Recommend improvements to CI/CD, operational processes, and security

Education & Special Training

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
• SRE or DevOps certifications
• Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Linux certifications (RHCSA, LFCS)

Experience

• 3–5 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Production Operations
• 2+ years in a senior or lead reliability role
• Experience supporting high-availability, production systems
• Exposure to 24x7 on-call or operational support is preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Systems & OS Expertise

• Linux/Unix systems (performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting)
• System internals, resource management, and failure analysis
• Experience with Windows environments is an advantage

Programming & Advanced Automation

• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, Go, or equivalent
• Automation frameworks
• Self-healing systems
• Reliability tooling
• Strong Git and code-review practices

Reliability Engineering & SRE Practices

• SLI, SLO, SLA, and error budgets
• Reliability vs. feature velocity trade-offs
• Blameless post-mortems and systemic improvements
• Ability to define and enforce reliability standards

Monitoring, Observability & Incident Leadership

• Metrics, logs, traces, and alerting platforms
• Observability design for distributed systems
• Lead major incident bridges
• Drive RCA and post-incident action plans

Cloud, Containers & Distributed Systems

• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Distributed systems, scalability, and fault tolerance
• Multi-region and DR architecture

CI/CD & Infrastructure as Code (Advanced Level)

• CI/CD pipelines
• Deployment strategies (blue-green, canary, rollback)
• Strong knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent IaC tools

Security, Compliance & Risk Awareness

• Secure system design and operations
• Secrets management and access control
• Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments is preferred

Languages

• Excellent verbal and written communication skill; both in Myanmar and English
