JobNet's 'Coffee in the Myanmar Workplace' Survey Results

We at JobNet recently conducted a survey on Myanmar professionals about their daily coffee habits in the workplace. Here are all the questions we asked and the results.

On average, how many cups of coffee do you drink during a regular workday?

After doing the calculations, it turns out that Myanmar professionals drink an average of 1.98 cups of coffee per day. To compare, an American drinks an average of 3.1 cups of coffee per day.

What brand of coffee do you usually drink at work?

The clear winner of this question was the locally produced Premier. In second place was Nestle, and the third most popular response was ‘Other,’ which was a mixture of various local and foreign coffee brands.

How do you take your coffee?

Over half of participants said they took their coffee black. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 coffee mixes are popular in Myanmar. While someone might not be adding additional milk or sugar to their coffee, it’s possible that they’re using a coffee mix packet that already has creamer and sweetener in it.

Do you think you could go through an entire workday without drinking any coffee?

The majority of people said they could go without drinking any coffee for an entire day. Good to know we’re not that addicted to coffee…yet?

How many times have you spilled coffee on your computer/laptop at work?

Thankfully, most people had never spilled coffee on their work laptop, but we’re a little worried by how many people had done so at least once. In fact, 7.5% of participants said they’d made a spillage 3+ times… Maybe if you’re already shaky enough that you’re spilling coffee on your laptop, then you should switch to water or some green tea. Just a suggestion.

What would you rather do than drink a bad cup of coffee?

Considering what a big role Facebook plays in everyday Myanmar life, we were shocked to see how many people chose giving up Facebook for a whole month from all the options we provided. The second most popular response was ‘Walk to Mandalay,’ which might also take you a month, but hey, at least you’ll be able to check in on Facebook along the way.

Bonus: What age group drinks the most amount of coffee?

We didn’t officially ask this in the survey, but we crunched some numbers, and it turns out that professionals who were 34-41 years old drank the most amount of coffee at work (2.09 cups per day).
