Position Summary

The Engineering Manager will lead the overall engineering function for the manufacturing operation, covering plant engineering, production equipment, maintenance, utilities, automation, CAPEX projects, process improvement, and engineering development.

The role is responsible for ensuring reliable and efficient factory operations while continuously improving safety, productivity, quality, OEE, equipment reliability, manufacturing capacity and cost efficiency.

The Engineering Manager will also lead engineering projects for new production lines, factory expansion, equipment installation, automation, commissioning and technology upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Leadership

Lead and manage the Engineering, Maintenance, Technical and Engineering Support teams.
Develop annual and long-term engineering strategies aligned with business objectives.
Establish engineering standards, procedures, KPIs and performance management systems.
Build technical capability through coaching, training and succession planning.
Manage engineering manpower, budgets and departmental resources.

2. Plant & Equipment Reliability

Ensure maximum availability, reliability and efficiency of production equipment.
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Monitor OEE, MTBF, MTTR, downtime and equipment utilization.
Lead root-cause analysis for recurring equipment and production problems.
Develop equipment lifecycle, replacement and upgrade strategies.
Ensure critical spare parts and technical resources are available.

3. Manufacturing Process & Productivity Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve production capacity, throughput and productivity.
Lead Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, TPM and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reduce downtime, waste, scrap, energy consumption and manufacturing costs.
Improve production layouts, material flow and equipment utilization.
Establish engineering solutions to improve safety, quality and operational efficiency.

4. CAPEX & Factory Development

Develop and manage annual engineering CAPEX plans.
Prepare technical specifications, business cases, budgets and ROI analysis.
Lead equipment selection, vendor evaluation, procurement, installation and commissioning.
Manage factory expansion, new production lines and infrastructure projects.
Ensure engineering projects are completed on time, within budget and according to specification.
Coordinate contractors, consultants, equipment suppliers and external engineering partners.

5. Automation & Technology

Identify and implement automation, robotics and smart manufacturing technologies.
Lead PLC, electrical, instrumentation and control-system improvement projects.
Evaluate new technologies to improve productivity and reduce dependency on manual processes.
Develop a manufacturing technology and automation roadmap.
Support implementation of MES, ERP integration and production data monitoring where applicable.

6. Production & Process Support

Provide technical support to Production, Quality, Supply Chain and other departments.
Ensure production lines are capable of achieving required capacity and quality standards.
Support new product introduction, process validation and production readiness.
Establish and maintain engineering specifications, SOPs, work instructions and technical documentation.
Ensure effective engineering change management.

7. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure all engineering activities comply with applicable safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
Lead engineering risk assessments and corrective actions.
Ensure machines, utilities and production facilities meet required safety standards.
Promote a strong safety culture throughout the engineering and manufacturing functions.

8. Project & Contractor Management

Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Establish project schedules, milestones, budgets and resource requirements.
Monitor project progress and manage technical risks and changes.
Supervise contractors and ensure compliance with company safety and quality requirements.

9. Cross-Functional LeadershipWork closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, Finance, HR and Supply Chain.
Act as the key technical escalation point for manufacturing issues.
Provide technical recommendations to senior management on investments, capacity and factory development.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
  2. 8–12+ years of engineering/manufacturing experience, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial or leadership position.
  3. Strong experience in manufacturing plants, production equipment and factory engineering.
  4. Proven experience managing CAPEX, factory expansion, equipment installation and commissioning.
  5. Strong knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance and equipment reliability.
  6. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, RCA and continuous improvement.
  7. Knowledge of automation, PLC, electrical systems, mechanical systems and industrial utilities.
  8. Strong project management, budgeting and vendor-management skills.
  9. Excellent leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.
  10. Experience with ERP/MES/CMMS systems is an advantage.
  11. Six Sigma, PMP, CMRP or other relevant certification is an advantage.
  12. Preferred Industry Experience
