1. Role Overview & Core Focus
The Subject Teacher is the frontline driver of academic excellence, responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and rigorous lessons within their specific discipline. They translate curriculum frameworks into impactful daily instruction, manage Tier-1 classroom behavior, and serve as the foundational professional in both the academic and operational ecosystems of the school.
2. Accountability & Chain of Communication
• Pastoral Reporting: Class Teacher (Form Tutor) -> Phase Pastoral Leader -> Head of Pastoral Care
• Academic Reporting: Head of Subject Department (HoSD) and Academic Coordinator
• Professional & Operational Escalation: Head of Department (HoD) / Head of School (HoS)
3. Key Responsibilities (Action & Ownership)
Teaching, Learning & Pedagogy
- Deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons that align with the school's vision, overarching curriculum frameworks, and the Department's Assessment Schedules and Schemes of Work (SOW).
- Embrace a collaborative approach to planning, actively participating in joint planning sessions with peers and the HoSD.
- Maintain a stimulating, organized, and learning-focused classroom environment utilizing dynamic educational displays and resources.
- Ensure homework is assigned effectively, purposefully, and aligned with school policy to consolidate student learning.
Classroom Management & Pastoral Care (Tier-1)
- Establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior, acting as the primary owner of Tier-1 classroom management.
- Identify and accurately escalate higher-level behavioral, social, or emotional concerns to the Class Teacher and Phase Pastoral Leader.
Assessment, Data & Feedback
- Implement regular formative and summative assessments according to the schedules designed by the HoSD and Academic Coordinators.
- Record accurate, timely assessment data and provide constructive feedback to students to drive improvement.
- Actively participate in departmental assessment moderation and data tracking meetings.
Professional Duties, Operations & Compliance
- Prepare and submit ‘Cover Lesson Plans' to the Campus Operations & Program Coordinator to ensure seamless substitution and cover during planned or unexpected absences.
- Fulfill assigned operational duties diligently, including, but not limited to, break/lunch duties, hall monitoring, and exam invigilation as scheduled by the Operations Coordinator and Exam Officer.
- Plan, lead, or support high-quality educational field trips and Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) in coordination with Operations.
- Submit resource, printing, and lab apparatus requests proactively to the Operations Coordinator within defined timelines.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
- Embrace formal learning observations, informal drop-ins, and implement actionable feedback from the HoSD, Academic Coordinators, and Academic Director.
- Engage actively in peer observation cycles to share best practices and foster a collaborative pedagogical culture across the school.
- Attend all mandated training sessions, faculty meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to improve teaching practice and subject curriculum expertise.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination Requirements
- Coordination with Class Teacher & Pastoral Leader: Maintain seamless communication regarding student well-being, peer dynamics, and academic progress, ensuring the Class Teacher has a holistic view of the student.
- Coordination with Campus Operations: Strictly adhere to logistical deadlines for printing, facility use, and duty rosters. Provide reliable lesson plans for cover to protect the campus routine.
- Coordination with HoSD & Academic Coordinator: Align daily teaching with strategic curriculum goals and actively adapt to data-driven pedagogical directives.
